This is the kind of case that was popular in the old days of the 35 mm film camera, where the shape of the case closely conforms to the shape of the camera, so that it is as compact as possible. It is called a "ever-ready" case because the camera stored inside the case can be put into action quickly.

I like this Sony LCJ-HL/B Jacket Case for the DSC-HX300 camera because it is very compact, comes with a very secure hand strap, and is made of a nice, man-made, leather-like material. You can loop the case and the hand strap together, so that the case can hang "in the air" while you take pictures with your camera. I do caution that if you use the hand strap instead of the neck strap, putting in or taking out the camera should be done close to a tabletop, or somewhere there is support, so that you do not accidentally drop the camera, before you have a chance to put your hand through the hand strap. A more secure way is to always loop your hand through the hand strap BEFORE putting in or taking out the camera.

The hand strap is attached to the camera via two points: the screw-in tripod socket and the right strap ringlet. The bottom of the screw is threaded, so that you can mount the camera/hand strap/case on a tripod without removing the hand strap.

If you need to throw your HX300 camera into a suitcase or travel bag, this case will protect your camera while taking up as little space as possible.

As indicated on the case box, this case is compatible with Sony HX300, HX200V, and HX200.

Update: I just noticed the case box has an illustration of how the neck strap and the hand strap can be attached to the HX300 AT THE SAME TIME, so that you can choose the best method to hold the camera for a particular moment.

After some months, I've realized that I use this cover 95% of the times.

I had another case (LowePro Edit 110) which allows me to carrry some accesories (batteries, filters, charger etc) but it is significantly bigger, so this one although a little bit more expensive makes sense for daily use.

Elegant (looks like leather) and with the perfect size (just for the camera).

Only problem is that as I have my tripod quick release device attached to my camera, I'm not using the provided attachment (that comes with the case).

This case was exactly what I was looking for. The leather seems like it's great quality and I feel much safer throwing my camera in any purse or bag with this instead of having to lug around another camera bag.

Honest reviews on Sony LCJ-HL/B Jacket Case for the DSC-HX300 (Black)

Most of the time I am not using my camera it is stored on a shelf, so the case is pointless. On long trips however the extra protection is appreciated. I like knowing the camera is covered/safe to protect it from drops, hits, etc. But when it is being used for a long period of time it is in my hand, and the case just sits idle. It would be nice if there was some provision on the case to attach it to your pants/belt since it does not collapse and then you have this big molded case that you have to lug around somehow... sort of a PITA.....

The strap is great. Neck straps scream 'tourist' and just don't work that well for me. However, the hand-strap is really nice as it gives a sense of firmness and security when holding the camera. Really happy with it--Sony as always makes a great quality product.

finally got the case. Wonderful addition to the HX 300. Excellent product. Easy to use. Open the velcro cover and the camera is exposed. Slip your hand into the grip and start taking pictures. Couldn't be easier. Also can be used with tripod with out removing the case.
