Make sure you have a compact DSLR or a spartan setup before you buy this bag because the opening of the main compartment is only about 5"W x 7"L. I think Domke's measurements include the outer pockets. I wanted a small bag to easily shove my camera into and still have an extra lens on hand. Well, my Nikon D60 and its attached 18-55 just about fits, sitting atop a 55-200 lens.

There are larger Domkes, but, many are soft-sided, with only a padded floor, and you need to buy inserts for side protection. I don't have much gear and I like the padding, so I'm OK with the F8 for now. I initially mistook the F8 for the F-3X Super Compact because it's not in Domke's main catalog. Turns out, the F8 is like the F-3X only with padding around all 4 sides as well as the floor all tightly sewn in. Outside, there are gusseted non-padded pockets on 3 sides for smaller items, making the bag look and feel like a small soft canvas shoulder bag.

The olive color is much nicer in person and it's darker than shown. Comes with one small velcro-edged moveable divider. Front clip is too tight, but I'll forgive it because it's made in USA, it's not plastic, and it adds to the classic rugged Domke look.

5 stars for build quality, overall design and fabric. I love it! Minus 1 star for cabin space, even for the most compact of systems. For a bag that Domke says is made "for today's digital SLR", I'm not sure that many large ones will fit easily.

UPDATE Oct 2008: This bag will fit a Nikon D90 with an 18-105VR lens attached, but with its lens hood retracted or removed.

Great bag. But much less liberal than the Domke F-3X for space. Ideal for a compact DSLR (D40, 60, Rebel) with flash and additional len. Very light though tight fit.

Doesn't have the classic Domke feel, suggest the F-3x if you want the true 'Domke' experience. Exterior and build quality looks and feels like a classic Domke. Interior feels more like a standard camera bag (e.g. Lowepro).

Slightly larger than the Lowepro Apex 120 but smaller than the Apex 140 AW.

Great bag for what it is, light, unobtrusive and looks great. If you want more space and want the experience of a true Domke Camera Bag suggest the larger F-3x.

I'd recommend this bag.. Also suggest the Lowepro 120 AW which I also liked though it's obviously more mainstream in its styling and has less interior space.

Update April 8, 2009.

After having used this bag for a couple of week one problem is that the shoulder strap is a little short even after it's fully extended. The length is good unless you wish to wear the bag across your body which you often do when traveling abroad for increased security. Then the length can be a little tight for the average person. Would drop my rating down to 4 stars because of this oversight.

The Domke F-8 bag is the perfect size if you want to travel very light. You can fit two lenses in here if you carry your DSLR, or can carry a D90 with 18-200 mounted and a 35mm lens underneath. I had my 180mm lens in the bag (in the large Zing neoprene lens pouch) and my 85mm in it at the same time. It was tight but they did fit. The side pockets are roomy enough for spare batteries or a flash and the front pocket is great for a wallet and cell phone. The bag has well padded sides and bottom as well.

This is not the bag if you need to carry more gear but is the perfect size for day trips in a large city. The bag is certainly not large enough to cause any neck and shoulder strain! Nothing about this bag screams "camera bag" and it does its job very well.

Honest reviews on Domke 700-80S F-8 Small Shoulder Bag - Sand

The bag feels durable. I wish the padding was a little thicker. I'm not sure how much more this bag could hold. I use it for my Canon XSi with the kit lens. I store the camera sideways because I don't want to put the camera in pointing down. So I don't know if there would be enough room for another lens. Overall, this bag works. It's nice cause it it small.

See picture above. The X100, with lens shade attached, fits perfectly inside the Domke F8 with room on the side for charger, battery, and flash. Side pockets will fit a few filters, spare batteries and cleaning supplies. The owner's manual fits in the front pocket, and it's deep enough to clip pens, sharpies, etc. The back pocket is not as large as the front, and is pretty tight, but will fit a small notebook. I have my xfer cable and a shutter release cable in the small, zippered pocket in the inside of the flap.

I've used Domke bags for most of my adult life, and I love the way the function and the way they wear. I can't wait for this one to break in and become part of me.
