This case for an Olympus OM-d E-M5 camera with the 12-50 zoom lens is a good buy. It looks like leather, it appears to be tough, and the lens snood is cleverly hinged so you can enclose the zoom lens without a great struggle. I bought it solely for the purpose of protecting my camera when I am transporting it about. So far I am quire pleased, especially considering the price.

My OMD was cold after coming in from shooting some photos of the dog. I had the Oly 14-150 mounted on the camera. i went to put it on the counter and dropped it. When it hit the floor the lens broke literally in half. The mount and some guts were still attached to the camera and the rest of the barrel and some more guts rolled across the floor and hit the fridge. Nice. i managed to get the lens mount off and fitted another lens and confirmed the camera was OK. Amazingly Olympus was able to repair the lens. The camera is just too small and slippery (especially when cold). I bought this case not expecting too much. You can never tell if they are leather or something else. I am very happy with the case. I use the bottom part all the time and the top part only occasionally. It looks like leather and my wife says it is. What it really does is make the OMD more "gripable" without adding a bunch of weight as in the battery grip. I bought the brown one and it looks very good with the silver body. I am so happy with the OMD that I am selling my entire Canon 5D II kit and lenses. When I buy a spare OMD I will get another one of these cases.

I purchased this case right before a seven day trip to Chiapas and Guatemala with my new OMD. From deep in the jungle to waterfalls and heavy rain, this case performed very well and dries very quickly. The case is not real leather, but it looks like it and is padded on the inside for protection.

The case lived up to my expectations of providing protection for my OMD. I love that you can quickly get to your camera to take a shot without having to decouple the cover from the case completely. Also, with the base attached, it provides a better grip for the OMD. This case looks great and I love the brown with the silver OMD body. Several people on the trip remarked how they loved the look of the case.

Pro's

Cons

When the cases is attached, the screen catches on the bottom lip of the case and makes extending and pivoting the OMD's screen a little harder.

In order to access the memory card, you must unscrew the bottom base. Same with the battery.

I don't like the neck strap that comes with the case.

I am certain these are the same cases sold on the "bay" look identical and they are not real leather. However, that said, the synthetic they are using is amazingly similar to real leather, hard to tell apart. Anyone looking at them (except for a "connoisseur") is going to think it's leather.

Also, I believe the synthetic may have advantages more waterproof, less susceptible to mold & mildew, acceptable to vegetarians, etc.

I don't always want to lug an obvious camera bag around but I don't like having my camera unprotected. The MegaGear "Ever Ready" case is a good solution for me as it adds little weight or profile to the camera itself. I don't mind that I need to remove the screw base to access the memory card or battery; I actually think it gives me a more comfortable grip of the camera when I'm shooting. There are times when I simply unsnap the more bulky parts of the case and I enjoy how easy it is to both detach and reattach. I don't plan on dropping the camera while in the case to test the qualities of concrete v case, but I do think it is better than nothing.

The leather feels fine and the snaps are secure. I'm very pleased -thank you!
