I've read some mixed reviews previously about whether this case really fits the 8100 camera. I took a chance and ordered it since Amazon's return policy makes it easy enough to send back if the item is not right. I received the case today and the camera does fit inside and the front flap does close over the top. The best way to describe this camera case is by analogy. If you've ever had a blackberry phone and used the leather holster case for it, this Nikon camera case is pretty much the same idea. The front flap holds in place with a hidden magnetic enclosure. As with a blackberry case, this camera case is a little bit stiff when new and I suspect that the more you use it, it will stretch out just a little bit all around and that will cause the front flap to hold on even better (since the top part of the flap that curves over the camera will soften up). One thing to be aware of is that since the case fits suggly, there really isnit any room inside to also carry a spare memory card or battery. There is a little holder sewed inside thats designed to slide a memory card in, but its located right where the camera screen would be and I wouldnt want to risk scratching up the screen with the memory card pressing up against it. Also, unlike a blackberry case that has a belt clip so you can carry the case and take it on and off your belt with ease, the Nikon camera case only has a belt loop sewed to the back so you'd have to slip your belt through the loop to carry the camera case. Not a big deal for me, as I carry my nikon 8100 camera around in my front pocket, (inside a soft, thin cloth bag) so I really only plan to use this Nikon case to transport my camera when packing it in my luggage for travel to and from my destination, and also while storing the camera on the shelf at home when not in use.

The case fits snug to the camera which would have been better if the sides were taller to keep out dust or dirt. However, it has a slot that allows the camera to fit only one way. The case looks good and appears to be durable. The belt loop was made to secure the case and camera from accidentally dropping it. Unfortunately, you have to undo your belt to use it. I do not wear a belt myself and really only got the case to protect the screen on the camera. I bought my 8100 a few weeks before deciding to get a case and found that it needed protection. I would recommend this case. If you are wanting to carry an extra battery or extra memory card, I would suggest putting the battery to the front right side of the camera lens (the shutter protects the lens and there is just enough room there). There is a leather sleeve sewn into the rear of the case for an extra memory card and it does appear to protect the screen from damage. If you are not away from power to recharge the battery at night, then you will not need an extra battery anyway. The case works excellent for what it was designed for with only a couple of nuisances to deal with.Best Deals for Nikon Coolpix S8100 Black Leather Case
I read the only two reviews on this when I purchased it, one good and one not so good.I took a chance anyway. I do like this case very much. It fits my camera well. Not too tight and not loose at all, it's just right. The magnet holds it closed just fine and stays closed even in my pocketbook. I've had it for a few months now and lived with it enough to give it this very good rating.Honest reviews on Nikon Coolpix S8100 Black Leather Case
I got one of these cases with the camera it was a kit packaged by costco with the case included, so I know it's the correct one. While the case looks good and is made from leather, it is impractical and poorly designed. The case has a magnetic closure but the magnets aren't strong enough to hold the flap closed. It barely stays closed even with the case empty! There is a tiny place for a memory card inside, but as someone else mentioned, it is right where the screen is and will scratch the screen. I also keep my memory cards inside of the small plastic cases that come with them so that the card is protected, and there is no way it will fit inside that little slot. There is no place to store an extra battery. The belt loop is awkward to use and useless a clip would have been better. A lot of people don't even wear belts!
This is one of those products designed only for looks and not for function. It's a waste of money unless you want to use it to store the camera in your desk drawer.
