I bought this case intending to use it with a Canon VIXIA HV30. Here is what I found:

Pro:

-Case is sturdy, made in China (what isn't these days?).

-Comes with a shoulder strap.

-Has a lifetime warranty.

I tried to stuff all the accessories in to see how much it would hold. Whether anyone would need to carry all these things, I wouldn't know, but I think it is a good way to do it for review purposes.

The Canon HV30 fits in the main pocket. One side pocket holds the remote and an extra film tape. One side pocket will hold 2 batteries. There is a zippered compartment behind the main one. It held the adapter and plug for a wall, but absolutely nothing else. For the front side pocket, it would hold 2 extra film tapes, maybe a cellphone. There is a zippered mesh bag on the inside front of the front pocket that could hold change, batteries, possibly a miniSD card.

I am not sure how I would fit a battery charger, manual, videomic, usb or firewire cables, or other accessories. If traveling some people might leave the battery charger in their room, but if you were taking it out for professional use you might need it. Either way, there is no space for these things.

Con:

-It will not hold many accessories.

-The belt loop on the back is uncomfortable with anything in the back pocket.

-It has decent padding, but seems a bit thin. I include it as a con because I like to protect my stuff very well. It might be good to some.

On the whole, it is a decent, but small case (interior dimensions are 4.7"W x 6.3"H x 1.97"D). If I was only carrying a camera around I think it would fit my needs perfectly. For a person using a camcorder with lots of attachments, I would say look elsewhere.

This bag is fantastic for the price! Lots of pockets to hold the little things, too. I really like the yellow interior it made it easy to see everything in it. I wish there was a handle on the top, but I would definitely buy again!

Really surprised at the high quality of this bag. The materials, construction, and workmanship is first class. Overall, excellent product, excellent service, excellent deal. Highly recommend.

Honest reviews on Ape Case Digital Camera and Mini Camcorder Case

I bought this for my 5inch GPS. Most of the GPS cases I looked at were designed for 4.3inch GPS, but my new unit is 5inch.

Like other Ape Bags, this product is well constructed, has great pocket sizes and has a bright yellow contrast interior. It's a brand that speaks for itself.

This bag has 5 pockets. The main pocket has 2 mesh pockets inside (one each front and back); the front pouch has 2 sd-card sized pockets and a mesh pocket inside; each of the side pockets has a mesh pocket (about the size of 2 AA batteries); the flat back pocket is divided. All interior pockets and dividers are well constructed. The variety of sizes ensures you'll have somewhere to safely store each small part you may have; but none of the interior dividers take up/waste a lot of space like some bags I've owned.

Also, although it's not shown in the photos, this bag does come with a narrow shoulder strap, which is adjustable in length and had a non-slip coating on one side.

I was looking for a small case that would hold my GPS unit, a battery charger for my iPod, a wall charger for my ipod, a small camera, and all of the associated cables. This case carries it all and with room to spare. I suppose I'm using it more as an organizer. When I check into a hotel, this case carries all of my electronics into the room for charging. It's built well, padded, with plenty of pockets and zippered compartments, but not too large.

Nice little camera case my DMC-ZS3 fits in nice and snug without it being too tight a fit, even after including an extra memory card and a thumb drive into the interior mesh pocket. It is definitely designed to make sure it fits this family of cameras (unlike some other cases on Amazon that come up in a search, that have been slammed repeatedly for being ill-fitting). You do have to put the camera in a certain way for best fit, but it's not a big deal. I love the hard exterior and it makes me feel more secure carrying the camera around. I also love how compact it is. The one drawback, and it's a major one unfortunately, is that they only included a carabiner clip--there is no way to put it on your belt. That may not be a problem for a girl/woman who can clip this to their purse, but for men it's a huge design flaw in my opinion. I'm to the point where I'm considering rigging the case with a belt clip (somehow).

I do like this case.... its bright and extremely light weight. The only word of wisdom I may have is that the case does fit my Nikon very snug. Not to say this is a bad thing, but it did take some getting used to for me. Its a great space saver and I would recommend this product.

There isn't much that's special about this case. It's think enough to provide moderate protection, but I don't think it would offer much protection from impact or a high fall. I do like the external pocket even though it's a pretty tight fit once you have your camera in the main pocket.

I bought this when I had my Canon Digital Rebel XT about a month ago. Before I bought this, I had another case from another brand, which was getting old. So I looked into Case Logic because I've bought a lot of their products before and I know that its always quality stuff. This case was no exception. When I got it, it looked a lot smaller than I had expected (in a good way). It was definitely smaller than my previous case. I was worried at first that It would not fit my camera and kit lens (18-55mm) like my previous case. But to my surprise, it fit even better! It managed to store my camera with the kit lens on, the battery charger, body cap, data cable, memory card box and the case strap which I had not yet attached to the case. All of this fit very comfortably, and there is still room for a little more stuff. The little zipper compartment on the front flap of the case is still empty. Though to be honest, I don't see much fitting in there anyway. A memory card or two at the most. Maybe something flat. The only downside is that it does not fit my camera manual. It is a bit too big for the case. But I'm sure not everyone usually walks around with their manuals! I have a slight case of OCD, and I just like having everything to do with my camera in one place, you know?

Three days ago, I upgraded my DSLR to the Canon 20D. This camera also still fits in the case with the kit lens on. With this camera though, the fit is a lot more snug since the camera is a lot bigger than the XT. But it still fits, and closes as well as when I had the XT in there. So I am totally satisfied with it! Even if I upgrade to a bigger case, it will definitely be from Case Logic. The build quality is excellent. Soft and padded in the important areas, and slightly more stiff on the flap area. It has a very nice color scheme too. Highly recommended!

EDIT 1:

I've had this case for almost a year now, and I've cycled through DSLRs like nobodies business. So apart from the XT and the 20D I mentioned above, I've since used this case for a 30D and now a 40D (soon a 60D). All of them have fit ever so perfectly with no space for it to move around. I've taken this case with me to the beach, road trips, the Niagara Falls and other random places! So its safe to say that this case has been tested, and guess what. It looks BRAND new even today. This case is SUPERB.

EDIT 2:

So I bought my 60D! This camera fits even better than the 60D with the 18-55 IS lens on it! It's probably because of the fact that the 60D is a tad smaller. It is also a tad lighter, which makes it much nicer to carry with this case. Still an excellent case thats going strong!

This is a nice, lightweight case. I carry my panasonic lumix FZ28 with lens hood on inside. The side pockets gives me room for a battery charger (wall type, no cord), extra battery, cell phone and my small wallet. Perfect for day trips so that I don't have to carry camera around my neck, and don't look to much like a tourist when camera is in the bag. Easy access by just pulling on the front flap with one hand and both zippers come undone to reveal the camera. Has a velcro closure as well on the flap so you dont' have to zip it up when you are inbetween shots! Very nice!

This Caselogic 306 SLR Camera Holster was perfect for what I was looking for. My Canon XSI with the 18-55 lens fit nice and snug in the bag. The strap could be folded on top of the back of the camera. The side pockets hold the battery charger and extra lens filters. The front storage pocket holds small items like extra memory cards. The bag is durable and nice looking and is padded very well in case you drop it. You will need another case for any extra lenses. I would definitely recommend this item for a DSLR camera.

Honest reviews on Case Logic TBC-306 SLR Camera Holster (Black)

First, this isn't a bag I would want to use in a rough situation. The padding is fairly minimal in it. However, I don't really think that is supposed to be its purpose. It is called a holster for a reason. It isn't designed for major storage of your camera. It's designed for when you want a light bag that's quick and not bulky. There are plenty of other bags with more padding, that hold more. However, those bags are substantially larger, heavier and bulkier. So, I feel that it is unfair to criticize the bag on this front. That would be like criticizing a mini cooper because it can't haul your family of 5 plus two dogs and a week's worth of luggage.

Now that we've talked about what the bag doesn't do and isn't good at, let's talk about what it is good at, and why I gave it five stars:

First of all, it's a perfect fit for my camera. It's tight, sure, but I actually would prefer that to too big where the camera is sliding back and forth. My D3100 fits perfectly snug in the main compartment with the 18-55mm kit lens attached.

Secondly, the extra compartments are just enough. I can actually fit a 55-200 mm lens in one of the side pockets, which was surprising. In the other side pocket I can fit: a micro tripod, a macro/wide angle combo filter/lens, a remote, some rubber bands and some plastic bags. In the front tiny pouch pocket, I can fit an extra battery and an extra memory card or two. Basically the essentials.

Thirdly, while it doesn't have a lot of padding, it is very ruggedly built. You aren't going to have to worry about the zipper breaking, they're all very big, sturdy zippers. The stitching is all very strong. The velcro for the front is strong. You're not going to have to worry about this thing falling apart.

Fourth, as far as cases go, it's attractive. I also somewhat prefer that it isn't camera branded. If you know what you're looking for, it's very obviously a camera bag, but a common thief would probably mistake it for something of lesser value.

Fifth, I like that you can just velcro down the main compartment without zipping the zippers. This is what is meant by calling it a "holster" and not a bag. It gives you the option to quickly rip open the compartment and grab your camera without painstaking zipping and unzipping the main compartment. Perfect for when you want a little more protection than simply letting your camera dangle around your neck, but you also need to be able to snap off a photo within a minute. Those precious seconds it would take to zip and unzip can often mean the difference between getting just the right moment and getting the disappointing fallout of the moment. Nothing sucks worse than thinking 'man, if I could have only hit the shutter button 5 seconds sooner.' and this holster helps with that. If you're at all into nature shooting, street photography, or basically any field where you are trying to capture the spontaniety of the moment, this bag can help. Again, remember, it's not supposed to be a storage bag, it's supposed to be a holster.

Finally, I like the fact that you can either carry it by a shoulder strap, a handle or through a strap (ie you can run a messenger pag's strap through there, keeping you from having two separate shoulder straps. I guess in theory you could also wear it on a belt, though as light as it is, it'd still probably be too heavy for a belt).

It's a great, small, light, non bulky bag for when you want to, for instance, just take your dogs to the park without lugging around a big bulky suitcase. Sure, if you're somewhat serious about photography it probably won't be your only bag, but for beginner's it's a good first bag, and for more serious photographers, it's a welcome option for when you want less bulk and/or need constant lighting fast acces to your camera.

I bought this case for my Nikon D3100 because it looks to be a respectable size on the Amazon page. Unfortunately, this bag is much smaller than I anticipated! I would only purchase this bag for occasions that require one lens and no accessories beside a couple of memory cards. My D3100 is a tight fit with just the kit lens, and even then, I have to play around with the zippers to close up the case. If you're looking for a primary case to store your DSLR, this is not it. Look for something bigger! You'll be underwhelmed when you receive this one.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I own a number of cases and here's what I can tell you. Stay away from the backpack style unless you have a specific need for them. It's easier to carry cases with a single shoulder strap and a handle (for when you want to carry it suitcase-style). With backpacks, getting things in an out will require you to place it on a flat surface or balance it precariously on your hand or knee. You more or less have to open the whole thing and if you are doing the balancing act, your stuff can take a spill.

The ones that are shaped like typical gadget bags (kind of boxy) are better. It's easier to get to your stuff than with a backpack, yet they can hold quite a bit depending on the size you get. I personally like Ape Case bags when I want to carry "all my stuff". The one drawback is that sometimes you want to travel as lean as you can, yet still carry the essentials. For me, that means my camera body and three lenses an 18-55, a 55-200, and a 50 mm prime. I had an 18-200 lens, but I gave it to my wife so I have to carry these three lenses with me. Of course, I would not feel complete without my flash. To be specific, I have a Nikon SB-800. The body with either non-prime lens attached, fits well in the center compartment. On either side of the center compartment, there are somewhat tubular-shaped side compartments. The two extra lenses fit perfectly together in one of the compartments. Their rear caps touch, but they are not in any peril. The SB-800 fits perfectly in the other side compartment. The extra lenses and the flash fit perfectly, but that means "in the raw" not inside a lens pouch or the flash case. That's just fine, because I don't want to remove the flash from the compartment and then have to remove it from another container, which I would then have to worry about losing. Same with the lenses. I like to be quick on the draw.

That leaves me with a front and rear pocket to put lens cleaning stuff (essential), extra memory, etc..

By the way, the center compartment has a sling, or "hammock" as Caselogic calls it. The lens goes through the hole in the center of the sling. The sling is designed to cradle and support the camera body, suspending it and acting like a shock absorber. The truth is that the sling will only work that way if you have a short lens attached. If you have a zoom attached, then the camera's weight will be supported by the lens resting on the bottom of the case. If you have your filters and your lens cap snug, this shouldn't be a problem. The good thing about the sling is the hole. It has ample give so that it doesn't remove your lens cap when you pull the camera out. That is not true of the Caselogic SLRC-201, which I also own. The 201 by the way, is for when you want to carry ONLY your camera with lens, and maybe a few tiny knick knacks.

The outside bottom of this case is like a solid rubber boot. It acts as a good barrier against rough terrain. It will also keep your stuff dry if you set the bag down on wet grass, etc.. It absorbs shock by distributing an impact.

The pleasant surprise is the shape of this case. It is shaped like a binocular case, which makes it less bulky than a rectangular case. It is also easier to carry at your side because it doesn't protrude as much. If you expect to be shooting on the go, say at an amusement park or while hiking, this case is much easier to tote and stow than a backpack or box-style case. You'll be mobile and quick on the draw.

The case material(s) are sturdy in places that need to be rugged, and softer where a gentle touch is required. Two places where the material is soft are under the lid of the main compartment (doesn't scratch your display screen), and on the side that touches your body when you carry it with the strap.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program A nicely thought out hammock system suspends your camera, lens down, in a well protected sling, inside a nicely foam insulated case with a waterproofed bottom. Security with easy access at last.

Finding the right case to carry a bigger-than-your-pocket camera around in (along with its accessories) has been a bit of an issue for enthusiasts for many years. Most of the cases used, even those designed by and marketed by the camera manufacturers themselves, were awkwardly configured. Most required that the camera be placed, lens facing outward, into a case `molded' to that camera's specifications.

Some were well padded and others not. Most left the lens sticking out in the most vulnerable position of being bumped into something possibly damaging what is, arguably, the cameras most sensitive, precise and important element its lens.

Cases tended, thus, to be either too stiff, too heavily padded and bulky or simply too difficult to quickly get the camera out for that once-in-a-lifetime shot every photographer has seen and missed. Consequently, many shutterbugs (both amateur and professional) have taken to carrying their cameras uncased, held around their neck by the old reliable strap.

Thanks to the good technical imagination, innovation and skill of the folks at Case-Logic, there is a new and lovely alternative to the imperfect case and the all-too-vulnerable open exposure of the camera and lens. This is the SLRC-202 SLR Camera Bag.

The hammock, which crosses over the top of the opened bag and attaches to the opposite side with a heavy-duty Velcro strip. This allows the camera to be placed into the case lens down with the body of the camera immediately accessible to your hand while the lens is held securely in a suspended position below the hammock. The camera lifts out easily with a single motion. My own Canon EOS Rebel XS1, for which I use a variety of EF and EF-S lenses, is held perfectly with plenty of room for even longer lenses to spare.

In addition to the two medium-size pockets (each 6 X 4 X 3.5 inches) along the narrow sides of this bag that are plenty large enough to hold extra lenses or other accessories, there are also slender zippered compartments on the front and back for extra memory cards, batteries, etc.

Not to be taken for granted, is the waterproof (and self-standing flat EVA bottom. Finding a safe place to put your camera and case down, especially out of doors in wet conditions, is yet another bug-a-boo for many photographers and Case-Logic has taken this into account as well.

With all of these features, including an effective memory-foam interior on the inner side of the top to give additional protection to the LCD screen of your camera, the Case-Logic SLRC-202 bag is surprisingly compact and light. Made of nylon and EVA, it weighs in at one pound even and measures only 9.5 X 5 X 12 inches externally and 7.5 X 4.3 X 5.5 inched internally.

It comes with a padded, removable, shoulder strap and is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for 25 years.

For the photographer who has tired of trying too many cases that were never just right and whose neck is a tad worn from carrying a fully loaded and long-lens camera around his/her neck, this Case-Logis SLRC-202 is something we have been waiting for.

Best Deals for Case Logic SLRC-202 Medium SLR Camera Bag (Black)

I've been using this bag, on and off, for a few years, with two different D-SLRs. On the plus side, it's deep enough to carry most of the current range of consumer and "prosumer" D-SLRs with an attached zoom, along with spare batteries, cables, media cards, filters, and a small flash unit. Padding is excellent, and access to the camera inside is very good. I've even shoved a small water bottle in one of the side pockets. As a hand-carried bag I think it's an good value.

What I don't like is how the bag hangs. The supplied strap is too narrow, and keeps slipping off my shoulder. For use as a shoulder bag you really need to replace the strap with a wide, non-slip strap. Even with a wide strap the bag doesn't really hang well, compared to my old, flexible Domke bags. On a couple of long day hikes I found it clumsy and difficult to use and to hang on to.

Still, for the money it's hard to beat. I have a huge Lowepro case for traveling with a lot of gear, and I'm getting a small Lowepro backpack for hikes, but for short trips in the car or scooter, this case still has a lot of utility.

Honest reviews on Case Logic SLRC-202 Medium SLR Camera Bag (Black)

This is a great little camera bag, well designed and well built. However, it is much smaller

than it looks on screen. It's a tight fit for my Nikon D7000 with 18-105 lens, maybe a little

too tight. Same thing on the side pocket that holds my 55-200 zoom. I wish now I had gone

with SLRC-203 instead.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I absolutely loved this bag, it is perfect formy Nikon SLR. It is very sturdy, specially the bottom. The inside is the best part of it, it has a "suspension system" that virtually keeps your camera "floating" inside. this means that the lens does not touch the bottom and neither the sides of the camera. AND the only part that is actually touched (the screen of the camera) is protected by a memory foam pad.

My only complaint are the side compartments. The extra lenses fit very tight inside and they go in with a little bit of difficulty.

I purchased this case to go along with a camera I purchased for my daughter. She has had a tendency to drop electronic devices so when I considered getting her a camera I knew a case that would protect the camera would be a necessity. So far it seems to have done its job well. It's lightweight but hard enough to protect the camera from typical daily knocking-about, and compact enough that she is willing to use it to carry her camera in her purse and/or backpack. She has only had it for about a month so far but I'd say it was a purchase well made.

I bought this case for a panasonic lumix fz28 camera and it fits perfectly along with the av cables, lens hood, lens cleaner and extra media cards in the main pocket. A battery pack and battery wall charger in one of the side pockets and a mini-tripod (mini-gorillapod) in the other side pocket. Zippers work nicely. I like it because it's small, slender and packs all I need to take great pictures. Highly recommend it for the fz18 or fz28 or similar looking superzoom cameras.

Here is the feedback at various levels -

1. Ordering & Shipping Easy to order(Thanks to Amazon); I ordered it on November 19, 2012 thru regular shipping (Not Prime) and was expecting it not before Nov. 30. I got it on Nov 24, 2012. Considering the holiday season I will give the shipping 10/10

2. Package and Handling Packaging was done in a sturdy card board box with sufficient cushioning of bubble wrap-around the kit. The Tripod was into the manufaturer's (Precision) box inside the big card board box safe and secure. Absolutely no issues on this too. 10/10

3. Inside the box The Lowepro 250 bag looks neat, compact and look like the pictures on item advertisement. The condition (& smell ;) ) of the bag tells its a brand new bag. I tested it by placing my Nikon D7K, 2 lenses, IPAD, Galaxy S-2, extra batteries (Camera & Phone), small notebook with Pen. All fit perfectly, I felt it a bit tight but probably with passage of time it will loosen up to acquire the shape of the objects. There are 2 side pockets, sufficient for a small (12 oz.) water bottle or maps etc. I did not try using those pockets at this point. Overall 8/10 for the bag in this price range.

4. I will surely be using this bag in next couple of months on my trips and will write back on how it held the ground. I will also put my feedback on the tripod and usefulness of the kit that came with this deal.

This is the first time I purchase a soft case for a camera. I was more used to fitted leather cases such as those that canon sells or used to sell (I dunno if they are still available) for their point and shoot's.

I think this case looks pretty nice for a rugged camera (I still think the leather fitted ones are more elegant). It's light, has nice padding and choice of "how you can wear it"... a carabiner and a belt loop, which is the feature I love most about this case. As I stated earlier, I used to always carry canon point and shoot cameras on my waist. A fitted leather cases that has a belt loop will allow you to pull out and store back your camera much like drawing a gun from its holster. One handed, easy access/operation. That's the negative when using a soft case... it's more time consuming to unzip (which generally means using both hands) and access your camera... same goes for putting it away. However, using the carabiner is pretty cool (except for accessing the camera). I like how, when using the carabiner, the camera will sit lower than your waist and if you are wearing a jacket or a regular sized backpack even and you chose to hang the camera toward the back of your waist, the camera won't be in the way. Also, going through airport security means you won't have to take your belt off in order to get the camera off your waist. The little storage compartment came in handy to transport a set of ear buds, extra battery and SD card. As for how much the padding will/would help in the event of dropping the camera... I guess if you knock it off a table top your camera should survive unscratched (Don't try this, for I am only guessing!!!)

If you are wondering how spacious this pouch/case is... I am using it with an Olympus TG-820 and it fits loose. It could carry a slightly bigger camera without a problem.

Hope this helps anyone who is considering purchasing this case.

I saw this case on Amazon and was wondering how my TG-2 would fit in it. I had read other reviews that used it with the TG-1. The TG-2 is slightly larger. I went to Walmart and saw the exact case there so I was able to try it out. My camera fits perfectly in it. When wearing on my belt, I can barely feel the camera and case. To my amazement Walmart sells this case for only $9. It is very seldom I find a Brick & mortar store to be cheaper than Amazon. I'm sure Amazon will correct the pricing soon.

This case is very well made with adequate padding for protecting delicate cameras. It has a loop for wearing on a belt, a tiny caribiner for hanging, and the zipper on the pocket is nicely recessed hiding it from obvious view. Accessory Genie shipped it very fast and seems to go out of its way to ensure satisfaction. Made in Veitnam.

Works fine, I even use it when my float strap is still attached, I just let it hang out of the case when it is zipped up. The lens on this camera does not have a closer so the case really becomes a needed item.

There is not much impact resistance in this nylon case, but it is a good size and has nice pockets for extra batteries and memory cards.

This is my first review on amazon but I felt I had to leave a review for this case. It is exactly as described and it is very small. You can place your camera in this case and put it in your pocket and go. The outer material is very soft and the inside protects your camera and screen. It includes a slot for memory cards and a slot for credit cards or money (folded up). Worked great for my girlfriend's z600.

All in all a fantastic buy.

The case is very stylish and very slim. It's only slightly bigger than the camera and makes for a snug fit. The only complaint I have is that I wish they had made this out of better quality leather.

Strengths: The pack has nice room and padding for an SLR and a lens.

The great thing about a chest pack is the ability to also carry a backpack at the same time and the easy access of the SLR because it stored right on your chest. In that regard, this design is a winner.

Weaknesses: The lower straps from the back harness have female ends who's straps are not adjustable. The adjustable male ends are on the lower part of the pack itself. This means that you have to reach the opposite arm across your chest and around the pack with the male end and hold the female to anchor it while pushing the male end into it. If you have a large chest it is difficult.

I was hoping that a chest pack built by Mountainsmith would be good for someone who wants to carry an SLR backcountry. The Descent AT hangs somewhat loosely off the chest so it swings when skiing or mountain biking and it bounces somewhat when hiking at a brisk pace. Even with the shoulder straps cinched as tight as they can be.

The looseness of the pack causes the top of the back harness rides up on the back of the neck. With a camera and two lenses (one large), this creates a sore neck. I workout regularly and I still find myself holding an arm under the pack to relieve my neck.

It seems to me that a strap that encircles the upper part of the rib cage would hold the pack close to solve the swinging problem and reduce the amount of weight on the back of the neck.

If the lens is long it and the camera in the the camera will hang over the second lens. My camera now has a rub mark on it. This is not one of the flaws I am referring to in the first paragraph, given what I'm trying to stuff into a chest pack, it makes sense.

This chest pack is a good start but it has a couple of design flaws that I've reported to Moutainsmith (but the response was the equivalent of a polite smile).

Note: While Mountainsmith makes a backpack for this chest pack, it is strictly for camera equipment. For people who want to spend time outdoors, want the quality of an SLR and need to carry more than camera equipment, that won't do. I would think there is a market for people who want both.

Bottom Line:

Mountainsmith should get credit for creating a chest pack with room for an SLR and a lens. It makes a lot of sense. If you want to carry a backpack and have quick access to your camera and a spare lens , there isn't much else out there. If you can live with the neck pain on long outings, this is the best choice right now.

The Descent AT bag is an excellent companion piece for any photographer / hiking enthusiast. Essentially able to hold a single DSLR body (with lens attached), a telephoto lens, and a small amount of miscellaneous items, the storage capacity of this bag is not such that it can be used independently of a day-pack for longer hikes. However, Mountainsmith's design allows it to be used nearly seamlessly with almost any day-pack backpack on the market, making the Descent AT a great way of shifting essential camera equipment away from your back and onto your chest where it is easily accessible.

Having used the Descent AT for nearly a year, it has become a regular part of my hiking kit. As a testament to the quality construction, the exterior material is incredibly abuse resistant, zippers and seams holding strong, and the harness components remaining equally as durable. The key component to getting the most out of this bag is to ensure that it is adjusted properly. If there is one fault of the Descent AT, its that it hangs loose on the top of the bag, with the shoulder harness components being to long for a truly tight fit for an average adult. However, that said, the Descent AT remains comfortable for long periods of wear.

Overall the Descent AT is a great camera bag for essential camera equipment during any wilderness excursion.

I have tried all kinds of bags. I get tired of taking my pack off to get the equipment I want to use with my camera. The front pack has changed this problem. I can hike and not miss a beat if I have to change my lens. Its comfortable and I am glad I took a chance on a different kind of bag.

Honest reviews on Mountainsmith Descent AT Recycled Camera Chestpack

Initial impressions: when I got the bag, I noticed immediately that it is a good, sturdy product like I've come to expect from Mountainsmith. Very happy with that. The bag has a harness-type system that supposedly ties in with a few Mountainsmith bags, but also can work as a standalone. As you should already know if you've gotten this far, this is a chest bag. That makes it good for quick camera access on the move, such as while hiking. I intend to use it for wildlife photography while in the backcountry.

Size and capacity: this bag will just barely accommodate my Canon 7D, a 28-135mm lens, my Sigma 170-500mm Telephoto, and a 2x teleconverter. It is a very tight fit. A telephoto lens any larger would definitely not fit at all. It also has a side pocket for something small and a front zippered flap that I'm using for my field notebook, pens, pencials, SD cards, etc.

All in all I'm happy with it. It carries comfortably, and carries a lot in a little package. More to follow after a five-day backcountry adventure next week!

the bag is good. I have a canon mark 5diii. Not very good for holding your camera and your lenses and flash. It was very tight. Maybe better suited for a smaller model. Other than it being tight. It was a good bag.

I've read some mixed reviews previously about whether this case really fits the 8100 camera. I took a chance and ordered it since Amazon's return policy makes it easy enough to send back if the item is not right. I received the case today and the camera does fit inside and the front flap does close over the top. The best way to describe this camera case is by analogy. If you've ever had a blackberry phone and used the leather holster case for it, this Nikon camera case is pretty much the same idea. The front flap holds in place with a hidden magnetic enclosure. As with a blackberry case, this camera case is a little bit stiff when new and I suspect that the more you use it, it will stretch out just a little bit all around and that will cause the front flap to hold on even better (since the top part of the flap that curves over the camera will soften up). One thing to be aware of is that since the case fits suggly, there really isnit any room inside to also carry a spare memory card or battery. There is a little holder sewed inside thats designed to slide a memory card in, but its located right where the camera screen would be and I wouldnt want to risk scratching up the screen with the memory card pressing up against it. Also, unlike a blackberry case that has a belt clip so you can carry the case and take it on and off your belt with ease, the Nikon camera case only has a belt loop sewed to the back so you'd have to slip your belt through the loop to carry the camera case. Not a big deal for me, as I carry my nikon 8100 camera around in my front pocket, (inside a soft, thin cloth bag) so I really only plan to use this Nikon case to transport my camera when packing it in my luggage for travel to and from my destination, and also while storing the camera on the shelf at home when not in use.

The case fits snug to the camera which would have been better if the sides were taller to keep out dust or dirt. However, it has a slot that allows the camera to fit only one way. The case looks good and appears to be durable. The belt loop was made to secure the case and camera from accidentally dropping it. Unfortunately, you have to undo your belt to use it. I do not wear a belt myself and really only got the case to protect the screen on the camera. I bought my 8100 a few weeks before deciding to get a case and found that it needed protection. I would recommend this case. If you are wanting to carry an extra battery or extra memory card, I would suggest putting the battery to the front right side of the camera lens (the shutter protects the lens and there is just enough room there). There is a leather sleeve sewn into the rear of the case for an extra memory card and it does appear to protect the screen from damage. If you are not away from power to recharge the battery at night, then you will not need an extra battery anyway. The case works excellent for what it was designed for with only a couple of nuisances to deal with.

I read the only two reviews on this when I purchased it, one good and one not so good.I took a chance anyway. I do like this case very much. It fits my camera well. Not too tight and not loose at all, it's just right. The magnet holds it closed just fine and stays closed even in my pocketbook. I've had it for a few months now and lived with it enough to give it this very good rating.

Honest reviews on Nikon Coolpix S8100 Black Leather Case

I got one of these cases with the camera it was a kit packaged by costco with the case included, so I know it's the correct one. While the case looks good and is made from leather, it is impractical and poorly designed.

The case has a magnetic closure but the magnets aren't strong enough to hold the flap closed. It barely stays closed even with the case empty! There is a tiny place for a memory card inside, but as someone else mentioned, it is right where the screen is and will scratch the screen. I also keep my memory cards inside of the small plastic cases that come with them so that the card is protected, and there is no way it will fit inside that little slot. There is no place to store an extra battery. The belt loop is awkward to use and useless a clip would have been better. A lot of people don't even wear belts!

This is one of those products designed only for looks and not for function. It's a waste of money unless you want to use it to store the camera in your desk drawer.
