I love the Kata photo bags. Every one I have tried has been well made and very functional. This little bag is no exception. The bag provides a compartment for a compact camera, and room for accessories or personal items.

I selected this bag for use with the Nikon V1. I have the camera body, the 10-30 and 30-110 lenses, and the flash. The body with the 10-30 lens attached barely fits into the main compartment. The case bulges a little at the top and is a tight fit. The bottom compartment is far too small for anything more than the flash and the flash is very small. The bottom pouch is probably an inch or so deep and heavily padded, so you can't do much to "stretch it".

So my rating of a 4 reflects a solid choice but no special features or functionality to make it a "wow".

If your looking for a svelte and absolute minimum size in a bag to fit your V1, 2 lenses and SB-N5 flash than this is it.

The main top compartment is large enough to hold either:

Snugly fit your V1 with the 30-110 lens attached (hood reversed), in a lens down position.

Easily fit the V1 with 10-30, or 10mm f2.8 lens attached, in a lens down or lens forward position, plus SB-N5 flash next to the camera,(which is not possible with the 30-110 lens attached.

The bottom compartment is large enough to hold either of the following:

Snugly fits 30-110 lens only, with hood reversed, (a little tight due to the larger diameter of the lens hood, but it works.)

Easily fits 10-30mm lens only.

Snugly fits 10mm f2.8 and the SB-N5 flash together.

Easily fits SB-N5 flash alone.

As already mentioned, some of the fits are snug and leave no room to spare, but nothing is forced and all zippers can be easily closed with the combinations I have given. Also all these fittings were done with a hand strap attached to the V1. Note that this bag will not hold all three lenses and camera together. For a three lens kit you want the Tamrac 3440 Rally Micro, or Lowepro 120 bag.

One more thing. The tiny yellow bag attached to the top inside with Velcro must be removed before these fits will work. However, I have found that this tiny yellow bag is a perfect size to put my polarizing filter in and then slide it into the narrow zippered side pouch. I was looking for a tiny pouch for my filters and this works great!

Padding is adequate and not overdone which keeps the bag svelte and light. Construction quality is very good and on a par with the excellent Tamrac bags but with less bulky padding.

All in all Kata KT DL-MX-40 is a good choice for keeping the a Nikon V1 2 lens kit as small and compact as possible while still affording good padded protection. Also men will like the fact that this Kata bag looks like a camera case, and not a purse!

Case Logic is usually my bag of choice, but this is something different, maybe even a bit odd (which usually gets my attention). I shoot mostly primes with my Pen E-PL5 and this case perfectly handles the Pen, Lumix 20mm pancake, Olympus 45mm, a couple SD cards and a couple batteries. It'll also handle the Lumix Leica 25mm when attached to the Pen, but just barely. Forget anything else bigger.

Also works great with my GX1, but neither camera can be stowed with the flash or view finder attached.

Nicely padded, appears to be well constructed and the separate compartment makes lens switches a bit easier in my opinion.

Highly recommended for prime lens shooters.

The bag is excellent. It offers good protection to my Nikon J1, spare battery, 2 additional lenses, a few memory cards and, if you leave a lens out, then the battery charger can be accommodated. I have used this bag in many situations and for many months now and still recommend it wholeheartedly. It is small, per its specification, but this makes it useful. I find myself willing to carry it around and hence, I have a good camera with me when I need it. I can't always say the same of my DSLR Nikon D90 and accessories which I frequently judge to be too bulky to carry around. A great bit of kit!

I have a Canon EOS-M with the 22mm pancake lens and the 11-55mm zoom lens. I was looking for a relatively small case that would allow me to carry the EOS-M, the lenses, a spare battery and an extra SD card. The case needed to be fairly small and have a belt loop. After researching many brands, including Lowepro, Case Logic, Tamrac, Crumpler, Manfrotto, and many others, I was not able to find the right fit nor the right size. Either the cases/bags were too big, too wide to carry on the waist, or too small. So I decided to check out the Kata website to see if they had something interesting.. and they did: The MarvelX-40. Granted, it was a bit more expensive than the other brands, especially the Case Logic cases which are a bargain here in Amazon.com (I do have some case logic cases and they are well made), but it seemed compact enough for my needs so I ordered. When I received it, the case/bag was a bit smaller than what I expected, but everything fit like a glove. There are only 3 compartments: (1) top, (2) bottom, and (3) side. The camera with the 22mm lens fit on the top compartment and the 11-55mm zoom lens fit on the bottom one (or viceversa). The memory card and the extra battery fit in the side compartment. If you insert the 22mm on the top, you have space to fit the battery charger next to the camera.

This case is definitely a keeper. It is my third Kata Bag and they are all built to last. The material is thick, and the interior is well padded. It is not a small case, but it is not a camcorder style case (bigger) either. For my needs is just right.
