Well to start off, if you want reviews about the bag, look for the bag only. There is a little bit of wiggle room on either side of your camera, but it's not terrible.
the kit, is ok. You know you get what you pay for. If you buy the backpack alone, it's the same price as with the kit. So might as well get the extra. But you get what you pay for. The kit, is not that great, but will do fine for someone starting out. The tripod I havent had problems with yet. It will NOT handel ANY abuse. But it's a good tripod if you dont have one, or you want one you can let your kids use. Or you can sell it on Ebay if you have a better one. As a sidenote, the tripod has levles on two spots that I've seen, and it comes with a case.
All in all, I say go for it. It's the same price as getting just the bag, and it doesnt diminish the bags value by any means. you just get some free stuff.

Been using this backpack for a few years now and it has never let me down. It fits a lot of gear.Best Deals for Lowepro Fastpack 250 Backpack Digital SLR Camera Case
I have a dslr. This is a great pack! You can put your laptop in it(15" comfortably/17"a squeeze but works). There is plenty of room for other gear. I usually carry my camera, an extra lens, laptop, large external flash, polarizer, cables, extra memory cards, extra batteries, keys, water bottle, a cleaning kit......you name it. If you are carrying many lenses, you may want to consider a larger pack, but this thing does more than it's job. I've had it for over 2 years. I would definitely recommend this.Honest reviews on Lowepro Fastpack 250 Backpack Digital SLR Camera Case

For a camera bag this thing is quite large. I'm 5'10" and this thing is a monster on my back. While it fits well it's flat which means that working up a sweat is pretty easy, BUT it also means that the weight from the gear inside is well distributed so less strain. This bag fits everything I need and it does it in stride. I don't put my laptop in the bag and instead I use it to fit all the flatter things that don't necessarily need their own compartment a.k.a. maps folders and such.
I would highly recommend this bag. The tripod is...terrible...and the cleaning kit...it works and isn't a bad place to start
AMAZING BAG. But if you don't have a lot of stuff to carry..it isn't for you. And while you don't get a weatherproof bag with this, the backpack will keep your stuff dry through a moderate rain. How do I know? Because I just walk through showers all the time and my stuff is dryer than I am and I use a freakin rain coat...
Lowepro is indeed one of the leading camera and laptop backpack but it is a little bit expensive IMO.
