Also fits the Coolpix S8000 series (S8100, S8200, etc.) and probably also all Coolpix S7000 and S9000
The Empire case is very similar to the "official" S-camera series Nikon cases. Nikon Coolpix S8100 Black Leather Case. My S8100 and S8200 cameras fit into it well.
SIMILARITIES
> Outer surface leather (or a leather-like material)
> Magnetic closure. Essentially a "quick draw holster"---very easy to get your camera out, or put it back.
> Belt loops. Rides very well on a belt, but there is no other way to carry it. I suggest an inexpensive black military-type belt, which can be worn even without belt loops to hold the camera. Army Camouflage or Solid Color Military Web Belts.
DIFFERENCES
> MUCH less expensive than the Nikon case. Not quite the same quality, but close.
> Sides are short lengths of black elastic strap. Therefore offers less protection from rain, dust, etc. than the Nikon case (which has soft leather sides).
> Hole in the bottom facilitates your "quick draw". (e.g., push up with a finger of your left hand while lifting the camera out with your right hand. However, that also means that you can't have anything loose in the bottom of the case (such as a business card or a spare memory card).
> No memory card pocket (however the pocket in the Nikon Case is poorly located, using it could scratch the view screen).
> Belt clip in addition to belt loops. So, you can use it on pants (or a skirt) without a belt. However, the clip is much less secure than the loops, and makes the case over 1/4" bulkier.
> Case is a single peice of material (leather or leather-like), as a result the bottom side is rounded. The Nikon case is sewn together from multiple pieces of leather, and has seams on the bottom edges. The result is that the Nikon case stands securely on a desk (etc.) while the Empire case may fall over.
EVALUATION
In general, does the job just as well as the Nikon case. I prefer the Nikon case, but it's a close call.I wanted the ability to carry camera in a safe and efficient manner. This case does the trick. I simply clip it onto my belt and it frees hands and pockets. It is well made. I have gotten it wet in the rain. It protected the camera and I saw no ill affects due to being in the weather. It fit my camera well and I have no complaints about its functionality, look, or construction. I was in some extremely hot weather and it was nice to be able to get to the camera without having to carry a bag. Also, I can not over emphasize the convenience of being able to clip my camera on and the sercuity of knowing where I put my camera.
