After purchasing my D5000 fantastic Nikon camera, I wanted a way to protect it, but not limit easy access to the D5000 many buttons... "This Snugit Skin was/is that answer to my wish to protect!" All buttons activated through this skin work perfectly! "No issues!" Plus,,, I have used it for most of the summer and I can now highly recommend it after giving it a good work out! Most camera protection cases delay access to the camera when there is only just second or two to capture a great shot... Things like unsnapping, then twirling the cover off to get it out-of-the-way, basically takes too much time to which this snug fitting solution "totally leaps beyond!" With a flip off of the lens cap and toggling the D5000 power switch, I am ready-to-go knowing that my camera is protected with a strong rubber outside cover that also aids me against random splashes as this skin to me is just part of my camera... Having done mechanical designs in the past, I am impress at how well this mechanical fit truly is... "There is no slop!" I would give the designer an A+! And, it is most true that one must remove the camera lens first to get this cover on... "It is that snug of a fit!" And, I have not notice any wearing, rubber stiffening, or any hints of rubber cracking as I scan this outer skin... This "skin" also significantly aids in maintaining a "good grip" on this camera at the same time... This fact has save me from dropping this camera a few times out in the rain,,, as on those occasions,,, I only had a few fingers left to hold on to my valuable camera... "The skin's surface touch was that helpful/beneficial!" And,,, "Today Snugit appears as new as the day I purchase it!" I only wonder at times what kind of rubber they used... Perhaps it was from a Tire Manufacture that has come up with the proper rubber/synthetic formula to make this product so good. That would be my guess............

I bought this protective skin for my Nikon D5000 which also happens to wear a battery grip. If the skin is on, the battery grip is obstructed by the rubber and won't lock into place so that the electrical contacts are... in contact for the battery grip to do what it is supposed to do. I removed the grip and applied the skin to test the camera handling. I found no immediate problem in the operation of the camera with the skin on. It would take some getting used to having the skin on though because all the buttons acquire a rubbery touch (!). The skin does not interfere with the swiveling screen. Do not try to put the skin on with a lens in place. The only easy way of applying the skin is with the lens off. Since I want to keep using the battery grip, I have set the skin aside. Quality-wise, the product appears to be sturdy. It should be able to stand harsher than usual treatment. If you are the photographer who gets into the thick of things, this is probably a protective skin you would like to try. It will protect your D5000 from scratches and other non-destructive fouling. But if you use a battery grip, like I do, this is not a valid proposition (unless you take a knife to the bottom right of the skin and remove a piece in which case I'd think the snug fit will suffer).Best Deals for Delkin DDSPROND5000-B Snug-it Pro Protective Camera Skin for Nikon
A few weeks ago, I dropped my camera while on some rocks in the New Mexico desert and the protective skin absorbed the drop like it was designed to. Needless to say the camera was ok and I continued to shoot my landscapes worry free. My only negative feedback would be thats its a bit hard to see some of the symbols for the features on the back but after some time and getting more familiar with the camera, that becomes less of a problem. This skin kit is amazing, now I'm a person who likes to keep my things nice and working for a long time. This is protection that everyone should put on their camera. Now this skin is limited but it's great. I have dropped my camera and it was fine, had it rained on and under neath the ski the camera was bone dry. I think it's a great product and would recommed it to anyone. I'm really blown away by the fit, quality, and protection this offers. I got it along with a collapsible rubber lens hood and UV filter to ruggedize the camera for a "caseless" outdoor festival carry rig with a crossbody sling strap. Installation was a snap. It looks like it's going to be harder than it is, but there's plenty enough stretch to get it wrapped around and have it fall into place where it conforms perfectly to the camera body. You do remove the lens to get it on.So obviously I'm all set for a ruggedized outdoor rig, but what really took me by surprise was the ease of operation the "button pressing through the skin". I mainly do product photography from a tripod with studio lighting. I'd never imagined keeping the skin on for studio use, but after no more than 10-20 adjustments, the marginally different feel of the buttons was second nature, and I don't see any reason to ever remove it as long as I'm not using an outer body accessory like the battery grip mentioned elsewhere. (It does fine with the mounting plates for my tripod and sling strap).
It gets the full five stars for what it is and what it does and the quality at which it does it, but I do have two suggestions for a possible "rev 2" if Delkin is listening. 1) I'd prefer there be a "flap" for the SD door (the only thing I've ever actually broken on a DSLR), and 2) an option to cover the built-in flash while retaining the hot shoe flap. I'm envisioning a scored line in which you can decide before installation whether you want to leave it or cut it away with a hobby knife. I just think the primary demographic of people who invest in protecting their equipment might have a significant overlap with those who make other arrangements for lighting than the on-body flash.
One other general note it does not interfere with swivel LCD operation, and comes with a separate clear "film" (harder, stiffer than what you think of for a cell phone cling) to protect the display.
All in all, one of the most pleasantly surprising products I've encountered, and I look forward to adding one to every body from here on out.
