Review of Lowepro Toploader Chest harness

Lowepro Toploader Chest harness
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I bought this product to use with the Lowepro Topload Zoom 1 Camera Bag, and it works incredibly well. I do a lot of hiking that often includes periods of rock scrambling. I wanted to have my camera ready at a moment's notice, yet be safe from bumping up against rocky surfaces. With the chest harness attached, my camera fits snug against my stomach, and my hands are free to grab onto rocky surfaces. I have even used the chest harness to keep my camera from swaying while I've climbed into slot canyons. I highly recommend this product.

I've found that the camera is most stable when the waist belt is hooked onto the top of the camera bag and the shoulder belts are attached to the bottom of the bag the vendor's photo shows the opposite attachment.

I use this with a topload zoom all-weather bag, and this harness keeps the bag stable, so I can lean completely forward (flat) or jog at a slow gallop. A nice feature of strap is that when you put it on, the back has a sown strap patch which permanently ties together all straps, and allows you to [loop] hang strap from your neck. This makes it very easy to put on as you don't have to rest bag on a table, etc. while you strap it in. My only issue with bag is that the D-Ring clips (which mount to your bag) are made out of plastic, and may break. But for the price, I'm not going to worry much. So 4-star because of the plastic clips, but other than that a nice 5-star product.

Best Deals for Lowepro Toploader Chest harness

I own a Nikon D80 and I usually go out with 2 lenses at any time. I purchased the topload zoom 2 along with the harness.

I got this for when I go hiking to use it with the chest harness and a backpack at the same time. While the harness is not that easy to put on the first time, the combo topload + harness is so convenient. It does not impair your capacity to carry other hiking related stuff, you don't have to miss all these incredible shots because you can just grab your camera whenever. And you do not need to kill your neck keeping your camera out all the time either. More importantly, this is a nice way to equalize the weight of your equipment when Hiking.

Some reviewers mention that the straps were not too conveniently located and could conflict with your backpack straps. If your backpack is well conceived, that's probably not a problem then.

Why 4 stars? The straps are fairly thin and not padded like on a backpack. This might hurt and not be too comfortable after long hours. Make sure you wear a pretty think shirt or a jacket.

The level of adjustments seems ok for a typical body size but I feel like either very small or very big people will have a hard time adjusting it. It will likely be too loose or too tight.

Overall, I like it!

Honest reviews on Lowepro Toploader Chest harness

I bought this item, so that I could have my DSLR accessible, while on long day trips, overnight trips, and backpack trips. I found that it doesn't work well with a backpack, because the straps conflict too much. I also found it to be quite uncomfortable, in conjunction with a backpack, because the straps are unforgiving.

I found that it doesn't work well with backpacks, but it might work well, when used with a lumbar pack. Even then, you might as well just use your bag's shoulder strap and attach the belt loop to your belt (cheap and easy).

If they made the lower straps, which go around your abdomen, out of a stretchy material, this might be a great product. Otherwise, I don't recommend it the idea is great, but it doesn't work the way I thought it would.

This holster accomplishes one goal: to carry my DSLR and a zoom lens without the encumbrance of a camera bag with a shoulder strap, or of a backpack that I must reach into whenever I need a camera tool. For this, I give the product an A-.

However, I also have two big complaints.

Lowepro designed this holster and harness for a man's body (e.g., a person without breasts). This is a huge disappointment and a frustrating problem. I can wear the harness (and I will), but because the ideal carrying position is slightly below chest level, it means that the holster and harness require a tighter fit, which makes it more cumbersome to open and close the holster. If I loosen the harness to move the holster farther down (say, to waist level), the straps slip up on my shoulders and create an uncomfortable non-fit for the harness.

Come on guys! Surely you can design a harness system that takes a woman's body into consideration and accommodates it. We, too, are photographers and would really appreciate it if you paid some attention to these details.

The other disappointment with this product is its lack of a wider belt loop opening that stretches across the entire width of the holster itself. As it is designed, the loop is functional, but with a larger DSLR/lens, the holster sags and pulls on the "belt", creating huge discomfort on my lower back and making the holster itself much harder to open and close easily. I have seen holsters that have belt loops that are as wide as the holster's width, that are also padded to keep the belt from being overly tight and uncomfortable on the waist/lower back.

To make this easier, I'll just list my review for each individual item.

The case is spectacular. It's sturdy and has so many pockets! It has straps to carry your tripod as well, which I didn't know before receiving my shipment. You can move around the velcro dividers in the main compartment to fit your camera as well. I bought this bundle mostly for the bag, and I'm extremely pleased.

The filters came in a hard case with dividers, with each filter in its own individual plastic packaging. The filters are of good quality, but the case is total rubbish. The sides are all glued together, and when you touch the edges of the one I received, your fingers will stick. It's basically falling apart. The fabric used on the inside is very scratchy, and the filters didn't fit very comfortably in it either. I had to cram them back in when I took them out. So basically, filters are good, but invest in a different casing.

The lens hood is sturdy.

The memory wallet is really neat. It has 3 mesh pockets, and comes with 3 labels for your memory cards.

I have not tested the remote, the battery, the cleaning kit, or the LCD screen protectors.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. The price was great for what I got, and I was expecting many more errors than there were. I wouldn't recommend this for professionals, but I definitely would for newbies and non-professional photographers.

I was tired of using a backback since I would have to put it down to access the insides. Backpacks are great since they give you access to everything at once.

I wanted a location bag that would swallow two camera bodies, a 24-70 2.8L, 50mm 1.4, 3 pocket wizards, 2 Canon 580ex flashes, a Sekonic 558 light meter, my 15" Macbook Pro, and accessories. You'll want a shoulder bag if you want to have access to your gear on the go. I looked this up on google and saw a video of how much this thing packed and that is what convinced me.

This bag is very deep, so you might want your lesser used items towards the bottom.

The material is of high quality, and the bright orange in the inside makes it easy to find your gear in the dark. I would highly recommend this bag.

I've been using this bag for about 6 weeks now, both walking around the city and taking it on a photo trip. I bought it as it seemed to be the only bag that met carry-on restrictions, would fit most of my equipment, and make it easy to access 2 cameras with different lenses on them instead of swapping lenses all of the time.

The only problem with that is the bag is incredibly small on the inside when compared to what it looks like from the outside. There are several areas where the designers got it almost right, but no cigar.

The main camera compartment will not take my 2 bodies with lenses attached. For one thing the viewfinders stick either into the laptop compartment or out towards the outside of the bag, which in turn does not let the top of the camera compartment close properly, which means the main outside flap does not close well. You can even see in the product pictures that one of the cameras has its viewfinder bulging out. This area measures 13"W X 5"D X 11"H, about 715 sq. in. I took off for the rounded corners which only make the curved space unusable. In comparison, my Lowepro Slingshot 200 has 624 sq. in. in its main compartment, and its all accessible, as well as the bag being $200 cheaper. My Pacsafe duffel with the photographic insert, which I would not carry around but it's good for transport, is less imposing than the Crumpler, but has a whopping 1760 sq.in. of space, all of it usable as it loads from the top.

If you `stack' your equipment as they suggest, you'll find yourself taking everything out of the bag, and removing all of the dividers to get at the bottom. Then of course you need to put everything back, and the dividers are a pain as they stick like glue to anything. I bought a new lens and that with the body attached is 13" long, the bag is 11" deep, doesn't fit. Speaking of dividers, they are a puzzle to figure out, I never have. The bag comes with a complete extra set, I assume for a second camera. This would all be easier if Crumpler supplied some diagrams for different configurations.

So, what I do is put the tripod (Gitzo traveler fits without the head on) on the bottom of the inside, put a layer of dividers in, then put the camera in across instead of vertically. I can at least carry my tripod and camera with long lens somewhat stealthily but nothing else will fit in the bag. Not even a tiny lens.

Putting anything in the top area (shown with the mesh) causes the flap to not fit square, and the handle will no longer be at the top but at an angle. Nothing will fit in the back pocket, I had to force an Elastolite reflector in there with the rain cover. The tripod holder is on the bottom, which might be OK for a backpack, but whenever you set this thing down it falls over. I tried putting my tripod on the front, but then when you open the case it falls to the grund if you're not careful. Supposedly it holds 18 CF cards, I could get only 4 in, the pockets are too small for any more unless you take them out of their cases, no thanks. The bright safety orange interior is great except that when you close the bag, the side flaps stick out, acting like a beacon to potential thieves that something good is inside.

I don't know how they made that video, although I save seen a magician pull rabbits out of his hat. I do know that their pictures are all of an open bag, as it would be miracle if you could close it, and if you did it would look bloated like a pig.

The quality is great, hence the 2 stars, but I'm really disappointed that I had to carry an extra camera bag on the plane because my equipment wouldn't fit in this bag, not even close. I'm even more disappointed that I can't walk around with 2 cameras ready to go like it shows in all of the pictures.

i should have returned it when I had a chance, but I was on a deadline and frankly tired of shopping for a bag. Do yourself a favor and go to a store and look at this bag, take your equipment along and see if it fits before you buy it.

Edit 6/15/11 I finally decided I needed use this bag for something so I took an Xacto knife to the innards. I cut out the laptop pocket so I now have enough room to fit a full size dSLR with a battery grip on it. I found out that the interior pieces are lined with a hard plastic so I cut those out also. The top now closes right and there is a lot more room in the interior. I also added Velcro panels where the bag closes so I don't have to use the straps to keep it closed. I think it may require more surgery, but I'm not sure yet, I'll have to see how it breaks in.

This bag is huge. it's perfect. but it's huge. totally customizable. i got it because i've got the 17" MBP that i need to haul around. but it totally houses my Sony A1U, Nikon D70s, 17"MBP and lots of accessories. good for carry-on size. just watch out that you don't whack someone with it as you're walking down the aisle of the plane!

Honest reviews on Crumpler The Brazillion Dollar Home

I purchased this bag a number of months ago and have used it quite a bit since then. I call this bag unbalanced, because I find it cumbersome to use. It can hold a lot of items, although like some other reviews I find its top loading a nuisance. In order to use its large capacity, you have to use dividers as flaps, and it is difficult to access bottom items. Also, the use of many dividers reduces the available volume. I also find the outer compartment to be very tight I won't put my speedlite there because I am concerned it would be damaged. The bag is, in my opinion, a high quality construction, but not as well thought out as I would have hoped. I went with the messenger style to allow access without setting down the bag, but I think it's too large to be used in that style. When I do have everything loaded in the bag, including a 17" MacBook Pro, the bag is very heavy and uncomfortable as a shoulder bag.

In retrospect, I suppose that I could have guessed that this bag was a poor ergonomic choice. It certainly was an expensive mistake. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Kata D-3N1-22, and only breaking out the Crumpler for flights where I need to fit my camera(s) and MacBook in one carry-on item.

The brazilian dollar home is altogether a great bag.

Pro: It is big enough to carry lots of photography equipment including a laptop. It is a considerably light bag, compared to other similar sized bags. When one carries so much equipment the weight of the bag makes a difference. It seem strong and made from durable material. pockets can be suited to fit your needs-a GREAT feature+ many built in pockets makes the bag very comfortable.

Cons: The fold down flap is the only protection for the equipment and its not zipped. It was better if a zipped flap would seal the equipment against wind and dust particles for example. No quick access to equipment-you have to open the main flap and if you have a tripod attached below the bag, it would not be very convenient. Price is high.

Altogether, I highly recommend this bag. This definitely a quality product.

I bought this item in order to carry my photo camera when traveling, it fits well if I put the lens (18-55 mm) in the bottom pocket and the camera in the middle pocket, I can also store things like my wallet, keys, passport, folded papers, cards and even my iPhone 4 with the LifeProof case although the pocket wont close, but in general its a great light weight bag and looks great! I would definitely recommend this product.

well, i bought this for my new Fuji x100s, still not sure will it fit well or not, the camera inner pouch seems a bit small to me ! but well padded , my Samsung s4 would only fit in the lower bigger one, not into the one meant for the phone part, though its my phone size i believe, surely can fit other smaller mobiles, the sling itself quiet light and has lots of spaces to manage your outing stuff, i bought this mainly when traveling or for a short trip, has many spaces for passports and your documents as well for some camera accessories , still miniature intended to carry all

Very tough and well made. The cubed foam facilitates customizing to your equipment.

In my case the purpose is to safely transport a camera body, extra lenses and various small accessories. It's just exactly the right size for taking the lenses I want to take while traveling, though not for every lens I will ever own of course.

There's a layer of egg crate foam lining the lid, a flat layer of foam in the bottom, and a chunk of cubed foam to fill the space in between. The cubed foam is somewhat compressed when fitted inside the case, so keep in mind that any space you carve out while the foam is removed from the case will be less when the foam is in the case.

Getting everything to fit required some thought and planning before starting to carve out the foam. I can turn my Olympus E-PL2 on end in a space carved all the way through the cubed foam, and it will fit between the layers of foam in the lid and bottom. For the lenses and adapter I carved properly-shaped cavities about halfway through the cubed foam. For the microphone and various small items I carved out the cubed foam all the way through to make cubbyholes.

I was able to safely install the E-PL2 with the 14-42mm lens attached, an Olympus Digital 70-300mm (140-600mm equivalent for Three Fourths) with hood, the MMF-2 adapter, a Panasonic 20mm pancake, a spare battery, a SEMA stereo microphone and adapter, and a remote shutter release.

The cubed foam is a bit messy while carving, and you definitely need to have patience to contour it to your items, especially if you want to fit items compactly. But when you're done you have a very rugged and safe transport for your items.

We decided to go with this case for a special project where we needed a hard protective case that we could install an inside face plate for an electronic controller. These cases are pre-designed with an inner lip that is designed for mounting a panel. The lip even has screw holes so installation of our control panel is very easy. We tried other well-known cases but we had to secure the faceplate with screws or rivets coming in from the side of the case, compromising its water resistance. These Nanuk cases are built extremely well (even better in our opinion than the "p" brand), the handle is more robust, and the double-action side latches give it the more futuristic look that we desired. Also you can open the latches and fold them all the way open and they "lock" out of the way until you release them. Nice feature if you want the latches to stay out of your way, which we did.

Well-priced, well-built, well-designed and the color options are great.

Note that this case does NOT come with the foam inserts, so if you're expecting those you will need to choose a different part number that has the foam.

Best Deals for Nanuk 905 Case with Padded Divider (Olive)

After twenty years of being a photographer I realized now I can never have enough cases, bags, etc. After seeing a companion travel with a case like this I was able to get one of my own and I have to say it has me rethinking how I pack and travel. This case is super-solid, like a hard case is, but is also lockable and watertight, two things that come into play, often times, when you least expect it. The foam inside is partially pre-cut allowing you to map out exactly how to fit your delicate and beloved equipment. I also like the fact the hinges on the side require you to press a secondary button before they release, almost like a two-part hinge release on the back of your camera. After using this small case I've decided to look for something larger in the same line. Last week I watched an irate airline passenger pull down a fellow traveler's bag, four or five feet to the airplane floor, something I seem to be seeing more and more these days. Had that been my bag, full of equipment, I'd probably still be at the airport sobbing. Overall, a great case, and something I'll be putting to good use. I recently picked up a Leica M9 and this case will be perfect for this.

Best price for a Nanuk case, so good I bought two and gave one to my brother. It does what it needs to do, keeps your investment safe. Big plus on the one hand opening compared to having both of your hands to open a Pelican case. The quality is much better than a Pelican.
