I like this bag a lot and it has become my everyday camera bag. It is well constructed, light weight, strong material and quality zippers, spacious, and in particular the hammock design in the main compartment keeps the camera suspended, providing extra protection if bag is dropped. The bottom itself is thick for additional protection and is very stable. The strap is long so I can wear it either on my shoulder or across my body comfortably. My other bag which is a back-pack design I now primarily use for times that require long hikes. Comparing the two design, I feel this Caselogic bag offers easier access. Whereas the back-pack provides better weight-distribution when carried on both shoulders.

My only caution for interested buyers is to be careful when selecting between the Case Logic SLRC 202 and 203 for proper size. The latter, which is the content of this review, is in my opinion much more spacious after trying both on for size. I actually ordered the 202 (medium) bag first and found the main compartment interior a little snug for my D90 with kit lens and after-market thick strap, while the side pockets too tight for mid or larger sized lenses. For reference, I have a Tokina 11-16 ultrawide and it does NOT fit in the side pockets when the camera is also housed in the main (on the 202). On the other hand, the 203 side pockets are deep & wide and the zippers go all the way down front to back (NoDrop tm), giving great access. The larger bag looks barely bigger than the medium one and yet it still weighs nothing. When loaded with the camera, a flash and 3 lenses, it feels supremely capable for the job. I have not done any measuring, but I doubt a nikon or canon 70-200 2.8 will fit in the side pockets or the main when connected to the body. Finally 203 can carry a tripod.

A strong yet light bag. Highly recommend.

--------------

It's now Oct 2010 the bag is in great condition like new. I use it all the time and now occasionally attach a tripod/monopod to it. Solid bag.

This bag, the SLRC-203 is well built. Good quality and all. Having owned a previous Caselogic case, the SLRC2, I chose this case because it seemed similar. I was very happy with the old case, but I upgraded from a small Nikon D40x to a larger Canon 7D.

This case fits the larger camera just fine with a large lens on the body and two lenses on either side in the pockets. Space is not really an issue.

The disappointing areas of the SLRC-203 are these (esp. compared to the SLRC2):

1. The side lens pockets have one zipper slider each that runs all the way up and over the case. This allows the pockets to open wide for big lenses, but it means that you have to almost completely unzip it to remove a lens. Compare this to the zipper on the Caselogic SLRC2 or SLRC-202 which is around the top. It is possible to leave the zipper unzipped on the SLRC2 and SLRC-202 and not have to worry about the lens falling out. With this case, unless the zipper is completely zipped down, you run a little risk of losing the lens. Also, if you store a tripod on the front (which is what the front flap is designed for) then the tripod will block your access to the lens pouch zippers... another annoying design flaw. Two zipper sliders per zipper would have been much nicer.

2. The top handle is attached to the top flap, so unless you have the zipper completely zipped you cannot/should not carry the case by the top handle. The SLRC2 case in comparison has two split handles on the top which can be grasped together regardless of whether the top flap is zipped. This comes in handy when you need to frequently access the contents of bag and are moving it around alot. With the SLRC-203, if the top is unzipped and you hold it by the handle, the flap will open and you could lose some stuff.

Those are the two worst parts of an otherwise great bag. Unfortunately, the SLRC2 (my old case) is too small for my Canon 7D and lenses, but there are design features I like more about that case as compared to this item, the SLRC-203.

Best Deals for Case Logic SLRC-203 Large SLR Camera Bag (Black)

I bought this case because of the stat sheet and reviews which said it could hold 4 lenses. In fact it will hold four lenses so long as they are the contact variety. This is called the "large" size case as contrasted with the medium one from the same manufacturer. Yes, it's "large" if you use the same ruler that Jenny Craig does when she measures the portions in her frozen dinners. In fact, it's about the size of an oversized lunch pail. All that said, this is a good product for what it is; a safe and protective slr camera case. Good cameras no longer come with hard shell cases as they did in days past and if you're looking to make up for that deficiency, this is a good product for you. Rather than using old time leather as a shock absorber, this new tech case uses a cutout hammock assembly (think, tightee-whitee) that nicely safeguards a camera with an attached lens from dents and damage. I use a canon 20d and this case securely holds it along with an attached 10-22 wide angle lens. I wouldn't recommend using it with any longer lens attached as it will scrape the bottom of the bag and defeat the whole design architecture. At most, you can fit one other lens in a side pocket, but I don't feel comfortable muffin topping an expensive lens into a lightly padded pocket which can only be closed by straining the zipper like calvin klein's jeans. Still, I'm keeping the case as I'll use it, no doubt. It's great for daytrips where you know what you'll be using your camera for and can plan ahead. If you're looking for an actual gear case or portable studio buy a slingshot 302.

Honest reviews on Case Logic SLRC-203 Large SLR Camera Bag (Black)

I second pretty much everything the previous reviewer said and, indeed, bought this larger of two bags on his advice. I'm glad I did. Let me add a few numbers. It holds (in the sling) my Nikon D90 which is 5" wide, 4"high, and 2" deep with a 3" diam., 5" long lens attached. Since this lens is a 18-270 I don't carry other lenses so can't comment on space for them. There is space in various compartments for the charger and 2 extra batteries, 5 or 6 77mm filters and a lens hood, carrying strap, a SB400 flash, extra SD cards, and (just in case) a Nikon Coolpix P50. I tried for the kitchen sink but it would not quite fit.

The case itself appears to be quite sturdy but also very light in weight. The hard molded base is quite nice as it keeps the bag upright at all times and would be wonderful if you had to set it down in a mud puddle (up to 1" deep only).

A really well designed unit though, it is, as you no doubt already noticed, a tad expensive. In this case, I think it is well worth the price!

Read my review of the little brother to this bag, the SLRC-202. This bag has all the good properties of its little brother, plus a little more in the central compartment that allows me to store my SB-800 flash.

The one thing that I find disappointing about this bag is the side pockets. They taper down toward the bottom so that they have a narrow base. I think this was done to maintain the overall top-wide narrow bottom shape. But aesthetics should not win out over function. The base of the side pockets is narrow enough so that lenses do not fit well in them. They fit they just don't fit well. The generous space at the top of the side pockets should have been maintained all the way to the bottom. That would make this a perfect bag. Caselogic, are you listening?

This case fits my Panasonic ZR1 perfectly. I wish the outside pocket had a little more room, so I could fit the battery charger in it. All in all, the camera section is well padded, and the shoulder strap is fully adjustable. It is a welcome addition for my frequent travel, and the price point was perfect! it is not soft, probably to protect the camera very much, but i actually bought it as a small handbag to put my wallet, mobile, keys, glasses, and additional mobile battery, mobile headset, so many things to be inserted inside my jeans pocket, so i decide to buy something small from Samsonite, and i found this one, it fit, but hard to manage, because i think its purpose to protect the camera, not to hold stuff like mine, to be fare it deserve five stars for its purpose, but for my purpose its only four stars, i couldn't find something else actually

The first three weeks of use, I loved this item. The interior was nice and gives good protection for my camera; also it has these padded divisions with Velcro that allows reorganizing the interior as I want or need for my camera and its accessories.

But as time went by the seams of some parts started to fail. Unfortunately now I cannot carry it by the little thing between the straps (one that I used to hang it). Also some of the compartments of the smaller pockets are unpicked as well.

Still it is a good item; I prefer this backpack instead of carrying the original canon bag, which can be inconvenient sometimes. Nevertheless if you are going to buy it, keep in mind that some parts will start unpicking.

I love this camera bag. It truly is the perfect size for me. The backpack feature is great, well balanced and secure. The only problem I found is the top 'handle' which I use routinely to pick the bag up, has already come loose. It makes me concerned for the arm straps. Can I trust them to hold up and protect my camera equipment?

Bought this for my daughter's new Canon Elph. It has a hard side that protects the screen well. I don't know about the reviews about the hoodie being difficult to undo--it works just fine for her. The case also has a wrist strap which is great. The best part about this slim case is that the camera is protected but it's small enough to stick in her backback or a small purse.

This is a great case cute, functional, and not too expensive the trifecta! I bought it for a Nikon Coolpix P310, and it was a snug fit (anoth 1/4 or 1/2 inch and it would have been too wide to fit), but works just fine. I love that the case doesn't add much bulk to the camera, because for me the whole point of a point and shoot camera is for the portability!

I was looking for a holster style camera case for my EOS 5D Mark II, and this looked like it. It's well constructed, and carries well. However, it would only accommodate the smallest of my telephoto lenses. And I have to remove the diopter correcting eyepiece and cup and tuck it next to the lens, or the case won't zip closed. Want to pack any extras, like a spare battery, a filter or two? Forget it. The interior mesh pocket has no expansion room (unless you don't want the camera), and the two exterior mesh pockets are so snug, the best I could do would be a spare flash card or two. For a holster for casual shooting, I guess this is okay anything more serious (a bigger lens, more accessories), look elsewhere.

I did a lot of research on similar items and finally ended up buying this bag. Yes, this a best buy for the price you pay. I have got a canon rebel XS camera with 18-55 IS lens mounted onto it. This bag comfortably accommodates the camera with lens and has a nice padding inside. It also comes with a shoulder strap which is pretty good. In comparison with Nikon and Canon bags with logo, I find this one to be no less in terms of utility but far less in terms of price. If you don't have too many lenses; happy with a medium zoom lens and always want to have it mounted onto your DSLR; and want ease of access this is your right choice. Professionals look elsewhere.

Best Deals for Vidpro SLR Holster Camera Case/Bag for Canon EOS, Nikon, Olympus

I have a Canon EOS 50D, and was looking for a small case to protect the camera with a short zoom lens attached when I throw it into an ordinary day pack. All my other lenses and gear are stored separately in other cases, or stowed elsewhere in the pack. I was surprised at how hard it is to find such a case for a full-sized DSLR in today's marketplace.

With the kit EF 28-135mm zoom attached, the 50D is just a bit too large for this case. However, with my old EF 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 II zoom attached, the fit is just fine, including the camera strap. This lens is about 3.25 inches long with filter and lens cap, so anything much bigger will probably not work for a camera of this size with this case.

Construction of is of a water resistant nylon shell, with padded interior. The base is sturdy and well padded. I have not tested the water resistance. For my purposes, the case should do just what I need it to do, and I am happy with the purchase.

These microfiber cleaning cloths are literally a lifesaver. Not only do they clean my glasses without scratches, but on a recent trip to a Latin American dictatorship they saved my life.

A small smudge on my lenses had been bothering me while I sat outside in the hot, thick air at a downtown cafe. As I reached down to my brown leather satchel to retrieve a microfiber cleaning cloth, gunfire a loud tat-tat-tat erupted. After it was over I saw the bullet holes where my head had been moments before. Literally life saving.

TLDR: basic, serviceable cleaning cloths that do the job.

Discount Lowepro Mini Trekker Camera Backpack (Black)

Lowepro Mini Trekker Camera Backpack
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
OK, in an attempt to find the "perfect" backpack, I ordered this one (LowePro Mini Trekker AW), the Tamrac Expedition 5 and the Kata R102. I ran them through their paces and guess what I found? None of them had everything I wanted. That being said, I settled on the Lowepro. Details below...

BACKPACKS IN GENERAL

The Bottom Line:

Simply put, it seems that it's nearly impossible to find a backpack that combines comfort with capacity. The Kata R102 was, by far, the most comfortable, study backpack of the 3 but was hands-down the "smallest" pack space-wise. There was hardly any room for manuals (my D70 manual and SB600 flash manual bulged the one pocket) and very little storage for "trinkets" (it all fell loose). The Lowepro and Tamrac packs had ample room, but were only semi-comfortable on my back compared to the Kata. So I had to decide between capacity and comfort. Since I really want a "carry everything" pack, the LowePro won out (being cheaper when compared to Tamrac and having a better "fit" on my back (6'4")).

THE LOWEPRO

The Good:

Of the three, only the LowePro was configured in a way that you could carry two "ready" cameras. Of course all 3 would carry a second body and lens, but not "assembled". The LowePro has room at the bottom for a second camera pointing toward the top of the pack.

The LowePro has the best "non-camera" storage system, with a system of mini slots and pouches for things like PDAs, iPods, books, etc. The Tamrac had this, but it was one big compartment where they would all jostle around. The Kata's was non-existent (literally).

The LowePro and Kata both have a true weather-proof cover but the LowePro stores it away in a built-in pouch in the bottom instead of taking up a "lens slot" (like the Kata, which is already space-limited).

The LowePro is the cheapest of the three (always a plus)

The Bad:

Not much "bad" that I can see, aside from the fact that it's not THE most comfortable of the three, but it certainly beats out the Tamrac which was the least comfortable of the three (for me)

The Ugly:

Of the 3, the LowePro has, by far, the worst tripod carrying system. Sure, the "hideaway" tripod puch is nice, but the supplied system of *elastic rope* is flimsy and seems to have been included as an after-thought. The compression straps can be crossed and hooked to the "wrong" side as a fix, but one shouldn't need to "fix" anything at these prices...

I decided on the Lowepro (as I said above) because I wanted a "carry everything" bag that would fit on my back. What I get is a nice "gadget bag" that fits comfortably on my back for a run through the airport. I do NOT have a backpack, however, that would work for a several-hour hike. I have a pack that's good for the State Fair so I have what I need and my wife can fit a few things she picks up as well. It will NOT be good for a day-trek through Paris. Then again, if I'm hiking in the woods or sight-seeing through Paris, do I really want EVERYTHING camera-related on my back? Probably not. I'm more likely to carry a small sling/fanny-pack for the camera, a zoom lens and maybe a flash.

When all was said and done, the LowePro struck the best balance of comfort and space. Space management was best in the one and comfort was second only to the Kata (which I preferred most of the three but lost out because of severe space restrictions).

Bottom line: You're not gonna be satisfied with what you get ;) At this price range, none of the backpacks serve up everything (my Dad and brother, who are also amateur photogs agree). The LowePro WILL, however, serve your immediate needs and save you a few bucks to investigate other options. It's sturdy and wears well for short periods of time (maybe an hour or two tops) and will DEFINTELY carry everything you might for a two-camera system (assuming you can share secondary lenses between the two).

Hope this helps!

PS I have no clue why this pack is showing up as "unavailable" on Amazon at the moment. Odd...

The problem with camera backpacks is that they are trying to do two things at once: 1) let you haul your equipment to where you want to go, and 2) use it easily once you're there. The Mini Trekker AW, like many other such backpacks, succeeds at the first goal but falls short at the second.

Let's get to the good stuff: the Mini Trekker has enough space for two bodies with lenses attached, plus several other lenses, flash units, etc. For those into digital SLRs, there are a couple of interior pockets ideally-sized for holding memory cards and batteries, plus a large exterior pocket that can hold a filter wallet plus much more. An innovative pouch-and-elastic-cord system lets you securely attach even a pro-sized tripod. And the AW model comes with a waterproof cover that stores away in a pocket under the pack when not in use. The support system includes the usual padded shoulder straps, plus a waist strap and a clipped tie between the shoulder straps to keep the pack securely in place while hiking, eliminating the swaying and slipping that can cause soreness and fatigue.

It's when you reach your destination, and want to do some shooting, that the Mini Trekker's shortcomings become evident. With everything packed vertically, and without any way to switch to over-the-shoulder carrying, there's no way to simultaneously hold the pack, remove the gear you need, and attach it to the camera/tripod. You have no choice but to take the pack completely off, set it on the ground, kneel down, and open a whole series of zippers and side clips to get to your gear. Want to change lenses or get a filter? Bend or kneel down again, grab what you need, put it on the camera, re-stow whatever has been removed, and so on. Time to move on to another photo location? Back down on the ground, pack everything up, reshoulder the pack, move on, and repeat. When you might have twenty or thirty places you want to photograph on a given day, each of which may require changing lenses or attaching accessories at least once, you can see that this would get tiring pretty quickly. And what if the ground is muddy or wet? I've known others who have used this sort of system, and who have reported that they found themselves passing up photo opportunities because it was too much of a hassle to deal with getting everything out of the backpack.

Unfortunately, there are few alternatives for those who would find this a pain. In the past, Photoflex used to make waist packs with shoulder straps, but they don't seem to offer them anymore. I understand that Lowepro offers a combination waistpack and (non-camera) daypack, the Orion AW, that allows the user to operate it as a backpack, then unclip the waistpack and swivel it to one's front or side when it's time to use, but I haven't seen one in person, and so can't vouch for its usability. In the interim, I guess the Mini Trekker will do the job of getting your equipment to its destination...just don't expect it to make your life easy once you get there.

When I found this pack I was looking for something that would conveniently store my SLR camera and its associated lenses, filters, film, etc. I am so glad that I spent the extra dough for something more than just a storage system. This is a very solid pack. I love to take my camera skiing and I have tested this pack with some pretty brutal falls. Of course, I don't recomend taking your camera through extreme conditions because I think eventually your gear will hate you! But, this pack has done a great job of protecting my camera and has allowed me to take it new places. Helping it exeed expectations is the overall "fit" of the pack---it fits close to the body and is very secure. I highly recomend it--------

Honest reviews on Lowepro Mini Trekker Camera Backpack (Black)

This is a nice, snazzy bag, which I use on a bicycle in my city photography excursions. It is very easy to open, snatch out the camera and take your killing shot. I usually carry 2 Nikon bodies, one with 500mm telephoto lens (fits nicely in the cross section of the bag), a whole bunch of filters, 10-15 rolls of film, a flashlight :-), a small tripod with a mount, and a small book (to read if I am bored). Straps are extremely comfortable for extended wear on both a bike and hiking.

Additionally, it does not really look like a big pro-photobag, so it will not attract much unwanted attention by a criminal element, if you considering taking it to the 3rd World.

I am a semi-professional photographer and this is a durable all-purpose backpack I can carry my equipment in. It doesn't hold everything a professional would want but it does carry the basic things I need. I especially like being able to take a tripod along without the hassle. I can carry lenses, filters, film, and extra batteries. And it isn't obviously a camera bag to a casual observer who might try slight of hand!
