Having outgrown my Pelican 1510 Hardcase I was in the market for a larger protective case that had room for my two camera bodies two speedlights, flash diffusers, seven lenses and other digital photography accessories including batteries, battery chargers, filters and lens cases and hoods. This case offers water, dirt, dust and chemical protection; the case being both water and air tight. Depending on the padding options, plucked foam offering the most protection there are very few places, climates or modes of transport this case and its contents cannot survive.

Fitted out with optional TSA locks it offers some vestiges of security being thrown into an airplane hold it being too large to be accepted as cabin overhead baggage. Two stage lid clamps on top and sides insure there will be no accidental opening of this case. O ring and air pressure valve insure water and air tightness.

As a defense contractor, I travel to climate extremes as part of my employment and switch between 3 different padding options:

1. 'Plucked foam' enables me to size almost exactly each piece of equipment in virtually shock proof protection. The downside is less room for everything I want to carry. This carry option included the foam padding in the lid giving my equipment all around protection.

2. (Pelican #1614) Padded velcro dividers adjustability with minimum 'wasted space' allowing a greater carrying capacity, but less isolation of individual pieces of equipment from bouncing and jarring. Under most circumstances it remains my preferred packing option. I can change equipment padding space on the fly using the velcro strips to resize the padding. Keeping the foam on the box lid still offers very good all around protection against contents moving or being bounced against each other under any travel circumstances.

3. (Pelican #1609 lid organizer)Padded velcro dividers with an unpadded lid organizer cargo net option replacing the foam in the case lid ... this option is great for maximizing carry capacity with the sacrifice of shock and bounce and isolation protection. Objects that would be protected by a foam insert in the lid are fully exposed to larger vertical objects carried in the case body. Careful, very careful packing and spacing of contents must be conducted to avoid damaging either the contents of lid organizer or case contents (or both) which can rub and scrape and damage each other.

Number two is my preferred organiztion of the case the others put into play based on need for extra protection or carrying a lot of equipment over short distances and time.

The case is larger than it appears gobbling up loads of equipment without protest with a weight penalty to match. Carrying the case is a joy wheels are well spaced and move without friction; retractable handle is comfortable and allows a good carrying angle. Getting the case in and out of a deep car trunk with a full load of equipment inside is the only discomfort drawback to using the full capacity of this case. There are carry handles both top and side to aid in this effort.

The case is offered in 3 colors from Pelican: Black, OD (Green) and Desert (Tan). Not all vendors will carry all colors. Be very specific as well as thinking through on which padding options you select as the options are not cheap. With a lifetime warranty you cannot do better than choosing this case. 5 Stars...

I had been through the bag routine, my wife always wondered why I was so obsessed with ordering camera bags. I could *NEVER* find one that was just right for what I needed. I almost ordered the 151x model which would've ended up being too small for my needs. I ended up with the 1610 which is actually the 1614 since I have the model with the dividers. I am glad that I went with the larger sized model, and I don't foresee the need to take this as a carry on.

Definitely go with the model that has the dividers, unless you are after the utmost of protection and don't expect to change the configuration around. In researching many people suggested using some adhesive for the foam pieces to help hold them in place. Others also complained of how the wheel support system was built into the case and you had to build padding around it which took away precious space.

With the dividers, if I need to make a configuration change, it is as simple as moving the velcro attached dividers. I only realistically have two slots left in the case, and at this point I can't carry my flash bracket or Rayflash in the Pelican as I'm out of space for those longer items.

The lid top organizer Pelican Lid organizer ballistic nylon will assist you in making the best use of space possible in the case. Initially I was concerned taking out the foam padding protecting the gear from being crushed by pressure on the top. This proved to be totally unfounded. I use the case as a table, seat, or step stool, and it doesn't flex in the least bit. I've seen videos of a loaded case being driven over by a pickup truck and it didn't flex in the least bit! I use my lid organizer to carry all of my batteries, additional memory cards, contracts, pens, business cards, cleaning materials, bride rescue pack, and another highly recommended item, a Pelican Desiccant pack #1500D Pelican Peli Desiccant Silica Gel. I'm quite shocked at how much moisture exists, and I've really only owned this since winter, and haven't been through a humid summer yet! Those people that just throw the little bags from shoe boxes in, aren't doing anything for their gear!!!

The wheels work exceptionally well. Last weekend I shot a wedding at a Bed and Breakfast, the service was across a large field. A day after a prolonged rainstorm I had no issues rolling the case across the grassy field. The ladies' heels all sunk into the field though!

Four latches around the case ensure a tight locking seal. So good that you can't even latch them if something as small as a single strand of your camera strap is protruding. This is probably by design so that the waterproofing isn't impacted.

The multiple lock points have proven useful. I picked up a 6' bike cable Avenir Tightrope Cables (6mm / 6 feet) and use a lettered Master lock Master Lock 1534D Password Plus Combo Lock in Blue, Yellow, Orange, Red or Silver (Colors Vary), 1-Pack so that I can lock the case to a solid object when shooting weddings, or on site. After hearing of cards disappearing from the gift table (from people you know?!) I wanted the extra security.

The only con I guess would be weight. My case loaded is pushing 65 pounds. Not enough to take a star off of the rating though. I love having a bulletproof case, and it even floats loaded with all of that gear.

I truly enjoy using this case in the field. It can hold most of my Nikon photo gear, that I use 99% of the time. I am glad that it has wheels, because this is not something I would want to carry for any distance. I highly recommend this case because it offers a lot of protection from the weather and from impacts to my photo gear, much better than my old Zero Halliburton aluminum case. As you can see from the photo that I uploaded it holds 3 bodies and several lenses. One of the advantages I like about the 1610 case is that it is wide enough; I can leave on my most frequently used lenses on the bodies, and not to worry about dust issues.

Honest reviews on Pelican 1610FBLK Case With Foam (Black)

If there's a better case than Pelican, I haven't found one!

I purchased the 1610 to protect my expensive Canon camera and lenses from the elements and rigors of trail riding the rugged Alaskan terrain with my Polaris Ranger 6x6.

Now, I don't worry about bouncing around on rocky trails, crossing swift rivers, following friends through clouds of dust, or getting caught in downpours and snow storms. These cases are nearly indestructible and completely sealed from the elements. I'd recommend Pelican cases to anyone who needs to protect valuable items from physical and/or environmental damage!

At first glance, Pelican cases seem expensive. But, when I realize that the price is less than 2% of what it would cost to replace my camera equipment, I'd say it's pretty cheap insurance, especially considering the quality!

Bought this case to haul around a bunch of gear for work, and it's awesome! The foam is scored into deep squares so you can pull out the squares you need to make sure whatever you're hauling has a snug fit. I recommend placing your object(s) on the foam, and using toothpicks to "draw" the outline.

My only complaint with the case is that over time, the squares have a tendency to tear at the scores with heavy use. I've been meaning to buy some brush-on adhesive and give all the foam a good coating of it, to see if this solves the problem. It's only for this reason that the case doesn't get 5 stars.

Shield is flexible plastic probably provides good protection but flexibility and installation procedure (using a liquid spray) make it very difficult (maybe impossible) to get an "invisible" application. I've installed many screen protectors (mostly made by Boxwave) and have been quite happy with the appearance and protection offered. This pliable plastic material doesn't lay as flat and sticks very aggressively. When I tried to lift the shield to remove a bubble near the edge it stretched out and didn't fit properly after that. Perhaps this material is better suited to wrapping curved and irregular surfaces; I'm sticking with Boxwave for flat LCD protection.

THIS BACK PACK MAKES A GREAT CAMERA BAG. IT FIT MY CANON DSLR PERFECTLY WITH THE 270MM LENS STILL ATTACHED. STILL HAD ROOM FOR AN EXTRA LENS AND MEMORY CARDS, FILTERS, GLOVES, MINI FLASHLIGHT TO NAME A FEW.

THE SLING STYLE IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND DOES PROVIDE EASY ACESS TO THE CAMERA AND ACCESSORIES, THE STRAP IS VERY COMFORTABLE ACROSS THE BACK AND IT IS LIGHTWEIGHT. I HAD ANOTHER CAMERA BAG/BACK PACK AND HAD TO RETURN IT AS IT WAS NOT COMFORTABLE. THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE BETTER CHOICE. Pillow Pod Camera Support System

Expecting to take a lot of long-distance photos on an upcoming safari in Tanzania, I looked around my box of photo stuff to see what there was to steady my camera and prevent shaky and off-subject shots.

Nearly all photos would be taken from within a stationery Toyota land cruiser with a pop-up top. So my mini-tripod was ruled out, as was the monopod. Neither was suitable for letting me capture moving subjects, for rapid setup, or for working without a flat surface to rest upon.

This beanbag was an ideal solution because of its small size and light weight, and I used it to steady my distant 42x photos and many of the videos. By coincidence, the guide also had a huge beanbag in his vehicle for the same purpose, one as big as a seat cushion and pretty heavy. That was rock-steady, but too unwieldy to grab and use for the oh-my-God! shots.

My one complaint about the featured bag is that it does not contain enough beans to provide sufficient support on all surfaces: specifically, the 1" tubular rail that I placed it on when taking photos. There was no other support for passengers to use, and most of the beans deserted the center and went to the front and rear portions of the bag that drooped over the rail. With more beans, the bag would bend a little, but the center would contain enough beans to provide better support for a camera on odd surfaces.

The bag's maker is at fault for being too cheap in its manufacture. I expect to use this bag again, but only after my wife adds more dry beans, sews it back up, and turns it into a 5-star product.

I wanted a case for my Canon SD940IS (dimensions 3.5"x2.2"x0.8"), a small and relatively thin camera. Being a fan of Tamrac gear, I got the 5206 case thinking it would be a good fit, but I goofed, as the case is too big.

Made of ballistic nylon, build quality and finish are excellent. Unfortunately, it is designed to accommodate a camera about 2.5 inches wide, and 1.4 inches thick, so my smaller camera slides around inside.

The case is 3.8 inches deep, with a flip down cover secured by Velcro. When the lid is closed there is about a half inch gap between the cover and the top of the inside compartment. The gap allows dirt and dust to enter, and exposes the camera to possible physical damage. If the Velcro was mounted lower, the cover would have a tighter fit.

The one inch wide Velcro fastener for the cover, has a decent "bite", but providing a fastener with double the surface area would be more secure, provide more flexibility. The thing to keep in mind about Velcro, is that while it is very convenient, the hook and loop fastening system becomes less secure with use.

The belt loop strap is about one inch wide, and is secured by Velcro, so the case can be removed from your belt without having to unfastening the buckle. Using Velcro again, the loop can be adjusted for use on narrow belts, as well as those up to about 2.5 inches wide. A pretty cool design, that hopefully holds up well under use.

There is small storage pocket under the lid to carry a spare battery or memory card. The pocket is secured by another Velcro strip, however when the standard plastic case for SD or CF cards is inserted into the pocket, it partially blocks the Velcro strip, reducing the effectiveness of the system. Typical for Tamrac, while they do put some thought into their designs, they don't always get the details right. Basic product testing isn't evident here.

The liner inside the case has a Velcro strip at the bottom that attaches to the nylon case. Adjusting this connection doesn't seem to affect the fit very much.

This case is solidly constructed, relatively inexpensive, and is an excellent buy for those with a slightly larger camera. Since it is too loose for my small Powershot, to salvage the situation, I sewed the sides in a little at the top to get a tighter fit. I'm more comfortable with using it now, although the gap at the top is still annoying.

Even if the inside dimensions are listed, without being able to do a proper hands on test with your point and shoot, it might take some luck finding a case that fits perfectly, shopping online.

We almost ordered an overseas leather case from eBay but the color black was unavailable. Based on reviews from another Amazon customer who listed dimensions of his cameras, we determined that this should fit the RX100 (102mm W x 59mm H x 36 mm D or 4.02" W x 2.32" H x 1.42 D) from dpreview. Tamrac makes good cases, but the products catalog on their web site is very poorly laid out and out of date. If the dims on the Tamrac were listed correctly, the 5206 would have been our top choice. Very happy with the purchase, the case wraps tightly around the camera like a glove, professional look worthy of the RX100.

I would describe myself as an enthusiastic amateur photographer/videographer who frequently travels with a lot of equipment.

This series of backpacks has been given high ratings by a number of users which prompted my initial interest. I live in a small town and was unable to get a "hands on" look at this backpack, although my local vendor did carry the Aero series of packs.

Prior to purchase I was looking for:

1) Protection for my 2008 15in MacBook Pro (LED series)

2) Protection for my Canon EOS 40D with multiple lenses

3) The ability to bring my Sony HDV Handycam

4) Plenty of room for accessories and additional small items

5) A sturdy external construction that would survive travel and hiking

6) A bag would serve as a carry-on for flights

This bag meets and exceeds my expectations. I am able to fit the bag under the seat of regional and large jets. On regional jets, it won't always fit in an overhead compartment...but I'm sure that this can vary among airlines.

In addition to the expectations above there are several other pluses:

1) The waste-strap provides plenty of extra support when you load up this bag

2) The inside may be customized in a number of configurations to suit your equipment needs with well designed velcro pads (keeps wasted space to a minimum)

3) There is room for later expansion with Tamrac's SAS and MAS systems

Be Aware:

1) This is a large backpack as others have suggested. Though it would appear to work well in a plane, it barely makes it under some seats. When there is a tight fit in an airplane you will have some difficulty getting access to your laptop without a bit of work.

2) This is probably not a bag to be used for short trips with a small amount of stuff...this bag is designed to be a carry-all.

3) It would appear that the zippers on laptop access portion of this bag are similar to the waterproof/rubberized zippers that have been given low ratings on other Tamrac bags in the past. I have not experienced any issues with these so far, though my time with this bag has been short to date.

I highly recommend this bag to those that have expectations similar to mine.

I am not sure how it happened but the amount of photographic equipment and accessories I've accumulated has blossomed like a mushroom cloud. I found myself carrying two or three bags of equipment with me when I went out on a photo shoot. This became cumbersome and frustrating. I decided what I needed was a bag that could hold my gear and keep it protected while I was out in the field. I looked at several before finally deciding on the Tamrac 5587 photo backpack.

Part of the problem with buying a bag over the Internet is that you never quite know how big it really is. I read the description of this bag but still did not have a clear vision of the size. I placed an order thinking I knew how big it was but when it arrived I was slightly stunned. This is by no means a small bag. It is large enough to require a waist belt and for good reason. The bag itself is capable of holding quite a lot of equipment. To give you an idea let me share with you what I had in the bag during my last assignment.

I was able to include a Nikon D300 camera with a Nikkor 80-400mm lens, a Nikon D200 camera with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens, a Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 lens, two Nikon SB800 flash units, a Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 lens, a Gitzo GM3551 monopod (strapped to the outside), an assortment of batteries, filters, lens caps, cleaning supplies, 12 Compact Flash memory cards, an Apple MacBook Pro 15", and the power cables and connections for the computer. All of this gear fit comfortably in the backpack. Once loaded it was by no means lightweight but I at least felt like the gear was protected and I could carry everything I needed in 1 bag.

The construction of the bag is first rate. The zippers are heavy duty and the velcro seems to be top notch. There are several adjustments that can be made to make the bag fit well. Fully loaded the weight seems to be distributed well so it was not overly painful to carry it. I would not want to hike for days with this on my back but over the course of several hours covering a soccer tournament it worked pretty well. The base is fairly square so it stands up on the ground pretty well. While I like the waist strap for carrying it, it does get in the way when you are not wearing the backpack. I wish there was a way of removing the waist strap but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible. Overall I like the idea, just be aware that it is pretty large so don't be too surprised by the large box it is delivered in.

Best Deals for Tamrac 5587 Expedition 7x Photo/Laptop Backpack (Black)

I actually didn't expect this bag/backpack to be so big. However, it makes sense and it holds allot of equipment and the Sony 15.4" laptop all in one bag with good solid construction and padding along with some light rain guard on the outer areas. It fits well, is very adjustable, comfy but heavy especially when filled. However, to me that is a no brainer. If you are looking for light weight this is NOT it. It does what it should and does it well and it moves well with you when hiking or on uneven terrain it doesn't throw you off balance as some other more stiffly attached ones do. Remember this bag/backpack comes in a larger one (Expedition 9x) and 2-3 smaller ones (Expedition 3x & 5x). These are usually on display at larger camera specialty shops, so go check it out before you buy it. Do search around as you can find good prices as with most items prices change often.

Honest reviews on Tamrac 5587 Expedition 7x Photo/Laptop Backpack (Black)

As a professional photojournalist, this bag does almost everything I could ask for. I have some quibbles but for the most part, they are just that...quibbles. This huge bag is pretty well designed, extremely well padded, pretty rugged and has served me quite well.

I don't remember exactly when I purchased the Tamarac Expedition. It was somewhere between 3 1/2 and 5 years ago. In that time, it has proved itself to be just exactly what I need as a photojournalist both in the field and in transit.

The first thing that I noticed about the Tamarac Expedition is its size. This thing is HUGE. If it was white, one might be mistaken for an Apollo astronaut preparing to walk on the moon. For some, the size will be too big but for me it's just right. Having a large bag like this allows me to not only carry multiple camera bodies and lenses, but it also allows me to carry a plethora of accessories into the field when necessary. The ability to carry enormous amounts of extra stuff means that I rarely find myself in need of anything if this is the bag I've grabbed on the way out the door to an assignment. In addition to all the obvious things like extra lenses, bodies, flashes, cleaning kits and so on, I also have plenty of space which is used for the bejillion little things that one always seems to need and never seems to have when something goes wrong in the field including extra lens caps, LCD covers, remote triggering accessories, a flashlight, a knife, battery packs, earplugs, gloves, camera covers and a reflective yellow safety vest.

The Tamarac Expedition has a myriad of adjustments that allow the wearer to make it comfortable. In fact, I would submit that there may be a few too many adjustments on this bag as I find myself constantly at war trying to find new and innovative ways to secure straps and pull ties that always seem to be flopping around.

One of the most important aspects of any camera transportation system is padding. Carrying expensive camera equipment has been likened to carrying a pair of jars when one is inside the other. The Tamarac Expedition 7 REALLY delivers in this area.

The padding on this bag is quite thick, chiefly because of the designer's apparent goal of user comfort. The padding and lumbar support on the back of this bag is quite thick which not only gives comfort to the wearer, but as an added bonus, gives the all important duty of keeping the contents of the bag that much more padded. In addition, since this bag is designed with a laptop pocket, that too is padded which again provides the real cargo (camera and lenses) with even MORE padding.

Inside, the Tamarac backpack continues the padding theme but on a far lessor scale. The adjustable dividers that are provided with this product are thinner than outside but quite adequate at keeping even heavy cameras and lenses separated in individually adjusted compartments. I also like, and wish there were more of, the velcro straps that allow you to "tie down" cameras or long lenses in the larger compartments.

The Tamarac backpack has a fair number of relatively small pockets and pouches. The way these are designed into the bag makes it look cool but frankly I would prefer a little more space to a little more style. One example of this is what I consider to be wasted space on the top of the bag where there is a small pocket for putting the feet of a tripod and above that empty space in between two oblong pockets where the tripod ostensibly rests. I never use this "feature" preferring to strap a tripod to the bottom of a backpack and I miss the pocket that could have been there instead.

If there is a downside to this camera bag, it is brought on only by one's own stupidity. It's possible to overload this bag so much that it would be truly a burden to carry for long periods of time. Ask me how I know this. ;-) In general, however, the big shoulder pads and heavily padded back, along with a very large waist belt system, make this camera bag quite comfortable to wear, usually. If I could change one thing about this, it would be to reduce the lumbar support by 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch because it sticks out just too far.

The only failure I've experienced with this bag is an area on the right hand side where the shell has somehow come unstitched for about 4 inches near the top flap. I don't believe that this was a user error but I really don't know how it happened, so take that for what it's worth.

All-in-all I pretty much like the Tamarac Expedition 7. From the materials it's made out of to most of its design, it is a very good backpack for those who have need of carrying large amounts of delicate equipment. The padding is outstanding (maybe a little too good in the lumbar area) but I would still recommend this product to fellow photojournalists or others who might want to take a large amount of stuff into the field. For me, the price is on the high side, but the utility of this backpack really meets my needs.

*Note: I wrote this review with my husband who is a photojournalist. All of the above opinions/words/sentiments are his.

This is absolutely the perfect photo bag for me. It's comfortable, rides well, carries everything I could need in the field, including a tripod. I think the design is by far the best so far.

Canon PSC-1000 Deluxe Blue Leather Case for the Canon SD1000 and SD770IS Digital Cameras

This case is specifically designed for the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Elph Camera (esp. the blue one). It protects the camera with a well made leather case enclosure. It does however add bulk to the total camera carrying experience. There is a slot in the top of the case so the camera's carrying strap can go through. Also the Case has a belt loop on the back.

If you carry additional batteries, memory cards, etc. this is NOT the case for you. If however, you are looking for a case specifically designed for this camera; then look no further. It's specifically designed to protect the camera ONLY.

I purchased this when I got my Canon SD770is camera. Within 24 hours, I was researching for a better case for my needs. After my research, I went online and purchased a Case Logic UNZ-2 Small Universal Pocket with Screen Protection (Blue/Silver). Simply, the Canon case is very bulky and I buy the Powershots for their function and their size. I want a case that I can easily put in my pocket and hardly realize that it is there. For my needs, I wouldn't use the Canon case if it were given to me. There is no doubt it will protect your camera, but the extra bulk and lack of any flexibility are a big downside for me. On the other hand, I absolutely love my Case Logic case. Frankly, if the Canon case is that large, you should be able to carry an extra charged battery and an extra memory card. But, you can't. Two thumbs down for this Canon case.

The camera fits perfectly in it and has a magnetic flap that keeps the flap securely in place. While it adds to the bulk of the camera, it's a small price to pay to keep the camera safe. It's definitely a must add-on for the Canon camera.

Bought this case for my Canon SD770IS and it's very good, the camera fits in perfectly and it protects in very well. Of course it makes it all a bit larger so I only use it when I really need to protect my camera, if I carry the camera in my pocket or so I don't use the case. Like the magnetic closure, works very well, easy to open and close.

I absolute love it. It holds my camera so snugly and safely. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anybody who would need such a device!

It fits the cameral like a glove and has a retro look that matches the camera. It's "pleather" so will likely not last near as long as real leather. It's kind of pricey for not being real leather, but I'd buy it again if given the choice.

OK because it's a container but not OK because no safety features.

transcend card-would not register photos without having to be re-programmed while traveling.
