this is a great little bag when you want to carry just 2-3 lenses. i bought this for my wife. she has a Nikon D3100. She can fit her 50mm f1.8 len with the body, and also her 18-55mm kit lens. also in the bag, she could also fit an extra better, 3 cables (1 HDMI, 1 USB & a lightning cable). in addition she can fit a couple SD cards, lens caps, and some filters. She doesn't have any other lens to pack inside but since the inserts in the larger compartment is ajustable, you can add another lens. no complaints here whatsoever. for the price you can't really complain. it does what it should. I have also place my own Canon T4i with some lens in there as well and it fitted fine. If you're interested in knowing which lens i've added and DSLRs i've added, here's a list.

I needed a light case for my Sony NEX-7 with my 18-200mm Sony lens, the additional 10-18mm wide angle lens, spare batterry and spare SD card. It all fits like a glove in that case. In addition, it weighs only 0.7 lb which is good for an 88 year man like me.

This is a small bag that works quite well for a very small camera such as an interchangeable lens non-DSLR or Sony NEXwith one extra lens along. It is light weight, compact and well padded. One of the best features is the combination of the anchor points for the shoulder strap being offset slightly toward the back of the case in combination with the zipper opening on the top of the bag. This arrangement allows one to carry the bag—with the strap across the chest—behind the arm opposite the shoulder with the strap. The top is zippered on three sides with double sliders. W hen you pull the bag under your arm so it is in front of you, the zippered top hinges away from your body so the camera can be quickly extracted along with the other lens, if needed, and you have a small suspended "bucket" in front of you to work out of while the top lid is folded out to the front and away from you. The lid can also be easily flipped back in place while the camera is in use. The offset anchor points keep the bag securely against you torso and out of the way for photographing. This is easier to do than explain but works well in a small bag of this sort. The interior dividers can be adjusted to fit different equipment or simply left out if using a DSLR.

The bag is smaller than it looks. For anyone wondering, the dimensions are: 8" high, 8" wide and 6" deep. You can fit a camera and 2 lenses in there (barely) but there won't be room for much else. (Like filters, hood, batteries, flash etc--all the things I generally want in the bag in case I need them.) If you don't need to carry those things, this bag will work well. (And I do like how it holds the camera.)

The bag itself is built well, but the side pockets are mesh and I'll admit I'm a bit hesitant to put anything in there that I don't want to lose. (They look like they could tear.)

I guess I'll keep trying to find a bag that will work, but in the meantime, this one will be fine.

I now own three Velocity Sling Bags. I frist purchased the Velocity 9, as I thought the 7 would not be big enough to carry my Cannon 300 and now the 400XTI, along with room for Three lenses Cannon 17-40 f4L, the 24-105 F4L, and the Cannon 70-200 f4L. assorted filters,caps batteries, and memory cards. well it was too big, next tried the Velocity 7, too small had to leave one lense out, well the 8X solved all problems. in addition they did one thing I had hoped for the zipper flaps are on the inside of the pack now so you open it away from you. makes it easier to get at everything.

If I had but one more suggestion it would be to be able to lock the cover closed. In Europe one has to be careful of pick pockets and locks would allow me to leave the pack on my back while more through towns and villages.

I got this bag right before going on vacation. I easily fit my Canon XTI camera, a zoom lens, and my Canon Optura digital camcorder in the main compartment. The bag has several padded dividers so that everything could remain scratch-free. The dividers are kept in place by velcro so you can adjust them to fit your camera(s) and lenses.

The pouch in the front of the bag is big enough for me to carry 2 mini dv tapes for my camcorder, an extra battery, 3 Compact Flash cards, and the battery charger that came with the Canon XTI. Even with all that, there is still room left over for more stuff. The front pouch also has these red tag things that you can use to denote which memory cards or DV tapes are full.

The bag felt very comfortable and I was able to carry it all day without feeling the need to take it off like a regular backpack. Since it goes across your chest it doesn't pull on your shoulders and arms like a regular backpack would. We went to Disney World and walked around from morning to night and it didn't bother me one bit.

Another nice feature is that the bag opens away from you. So when I needed to grab a camera out of it I just swung it from my back to my side or front and opened the top pouch without it constantly falling close and getting in my way.

The only negative thing I could think of is that when you take the bag off and set it down, it doesn't stand up on its own. You either have to lean it against the wall or lay it flat.

Bottom line, this is a great bag for active photographers on the go or just folks that hate their camera bags falling off their shoulder all the time.

I purchased the Velocity 8x Pro to house my Canon Rebel XSi and attached battery grip, also flash and zoom lens. The associated product description states that the pack will work with a grip, in this case it did not. The camera and grip is such a tight fit that it is extremely difficult to slowly zip/unzip the upper cover. The pack is just too small for this combination.

Thanks to Amazon's great return policy I returned the Sling Pack. I ended up purchasing a Lowepro Topload Zoom 1 Camera Bag for my XSI, it's not really the same in functionality, but my camera and grip fit well, and are easy to get to.

The Tamrac pack appears well constructed, and has ample pockets for accessories. It had a great review in Professional Photographer (November 2008), one of the reasons I initially purchased it. As some have mentioned, the shoulder strap padding does not extend far enough to provide all the padding you would need over your shoulder. Also, the single zip on the upper cover is not as efficient as a dual zip option, and will slow access to the camera.

I have the Velocity 7 but it would not hold my 80-400 lens attached. The strap on this bag has little padding and the weight with a camera and lens in the bag starts to weigh on your shoulder.

I ordered the Velocity 8x with high hopes the new design would be better. It is not. The strap has more padding and my 80-400 and another lens fits in the bag but the weight still is a problem for one "sling" strap. Furthermore the product photos are deceptive they show the bag sitting high in the users back and low when it swings around. This is false advertising, if you adjust the bag so fit your back it swings around so high on your chest you struggle to get to your equipment. The adjustment strap annoyingly bunches up as you move from the back to front position. You would be better served to remove the bag defeating the whole purpose. Plus its dificult to get off and on.

I agree with the following reviews about the Velocity 8, they still hold true to the 8X.

You can stuff it in pretty much any way you want to, but it never really seems to fit in any kind of secure fashion. The bag's flat profile is nice, but wasted. Plus, the round bottom makes it impossible to set the bag down to open it up. Now, if they would just design the bag that they advertised...

Oh, and did I mention that this bag didn't live up to my expectations?"

I agree with Road Runners assessment as well: "...when I got a bigger lens and camera body (which did not fit in the 7) I naturally picked up the 8 (even though some "reviews" on Amazon noted that the angle of the bag after you swing it around to the front made it difficult to remove the camera.....some even felt they were likely to drop the camera)." ..."What makes the bag hang at that awkward angle is the location of the strap attachment on the side of the bag.....it is lower than on the Velocity 7. As a result, the bag hangs at a tilt when you swing it around in front of you. I could never have enjoyed my skiing trips, or taken so many great pictures, if the 7 was this awkward to use."

Get a backpack you will be better served.

I usually don't write reviews but I had to about this camera bag because the negative comments truly surprised me. I love this bag! It sits perfectly on my back, it flips around exactly as it shown, easy to access your camera, and it is light.

To determine if I was going to like this bag, I spent two hours walk around with this bag on my shoulder. It was very comfortable and never awkward. I'm not a small guy... I'm 6'2", a solid 220lbs, it fit comfortably, and never felt like a burden while walking with my gear. How many shoulder bags can compete with that?

I do lots of hiking/traveling (almost every weekend) and I need a bag that would not weigh me down or be cumbersome when exploring busy city sites. This bag has ample room for a normal size DSLR camera, three lenses (depending on the size) or two lenses with a flash. Personally, I know when I am hiking/traveling; I take the most utilized lenses only: 50mm, wide angle, and zoom lenses. What else would you need? A flash... maybe. Extra memory cards definitely! If you are looking to lug your battery charger too, my question would be why? It is a travel camera bag and the least utilized equipment can go in your suitcase or wait for you in the car.

My filters, cell phone, iPod, and glasses fit in the front pouch with ease. The side straps of the bag easily held my light weight tripod too.

The only drawback to the bag is the inability to stand up on its own. You must lay the bag on flat surface or swing the strap over chair to access the top pouch when it is NOT on your shoulder.

This is my third Tamrac bag in my 20+ years of taking photos and I can truly say, I love this bag.

this stores a d7000 with 18-200, tokina 100, 50 prime and sb700. also stores cables, spare batteries, cards, cloths, batteries, chargers... a few documents and a tablet. good base construction to try protect from puddles, and rain cover for those not great weather days. a cool feature is the top zip to be able to quickly pull out the camera. they have this interesting magnet tab to protect the zip from getting accidentally pulled and keeping the top exposed. cool. also can be put on the handle of a suitcase.

I have been looking for a mid range "carry-all" for some time now, and I just happened to see this at a local store. I'd never heard of Vanguard before, but the quality was really nice and it was the perfect size for what I wanted to have portable on foot:

body w/lens

extra lens

2 speedlites

a few filters

extra batteries

random stuff

The velcro dividers & pads are well made, unlike many other brands on the market which feel flimsy. The bag also feels very sturdy and well padded, and the rubber feet are sturdy as well to keep your bag in an upright position even when fully packed.

I also went with this bag over other styles because:

-it isn't as awkward as a sling style bag, and you can wear it over either shoulder with more comfort

-the camera is much more accessible than a backpack

-is more maneuverable than a rolling attache-style bag

-holds more than a waist bag (such as Lowepro's outback)

True, it gets a bit uncomfortable fully loaded with a tripod to boot, but that's the beauty of just offloading what you don't need. But for me, this is the perfect size for a very well-rounded shooting experience without feeling limited as to what I can bring with me.

Still going strong, no issues whatsoever with this bag. It's awesome as a walkaround bag if you need to carry more than one lens or a speedlite or two. Very comfortable if you don't stuff it completely full. All the stitching, velcro, snaps... all holding up perfectly.

One great feature I didn't mention in the original review is that even though this messenger has a traditional folding flap, there is also a hidden zipper up top so you can do a quick unzip & retrieve the camera quickly if needed.

I have been looking for the proverbial perfect camera bag for decades, ever since I got two additional lenses (Kiron 28-105 and Kiron 70-200 zooms) for my Nikon FM2 (in mid `80s).

Having bought a couple camera bags in various styles and sizes, I realized that there was no such thing as the perfect camera bag. Make it even worse, I was addicted to collecting camera for several years and tried by bring multiple cameras/lenses to the field every time I go out. Then, my aging process seemed to accelerate in the past few years, my body and spine started to protest to the hefty weight on my shoulder and back. Hence, I was looking for the perfect camera bag again. This time, I tried to be realistic to myself.

From my perspective, the camera bag has 2 basic designs (these are my terminologies): 1) horizontal design the depth of the bag is about 6 to 8 inches such that all lenses can be seen and fetched from the top easily. The main drawbacks are that you need to put a (D)SLR body with a medium or large lens attached horizontally. Hence, this combo will take much of the useful space. The 2nd type is "Vertical." You can put a body with a medium or large lens attached and put the combo vertically in the bag. It is very convenient to take the rig and shoot. The drawback is that some smaller lenses will be stacked vertically within the depth of the bag. Therefore, nothing is perfect. It all depends upon what you need.

I was looking for a vertical bag that can accommodate 2 medium-sized (D)SLR bodies and each has a lens attached, plus maybe 2 additional lenses and a flash. Having read every possible review on medium to large shoulder bag in the Internet, I picked this not-so-well-known Vanguard Up-Rise 38 expandable shoulder bag.

First, I tested its maximum capacity (without a laptop, since I will not lug a laptop to the field) without the expansion. I can easily put the following combos into the bag: (1) Nikon F100 (film) attached with a Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm VR, (2) Nikon D7000 attached with Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D AF ED, and (3) Nikon SB-600 flash. I still have some space to spare. See the attached pictures that I uploaded. They fit very well vertically in the bag albeit, the Nikon F100 body is pushing to the limits of the bag. I only wish the front latch can be a little bit longer.

The upper portion of some removable dividers has additional flap on the top; it is very handy to cushion, say, 2 (D) SLR bodies.

It is comfortable to carry 2 bodies and 4 lenses (still heavy) and to walk around for several hours. I wish it has an external holder to accommodate a water bottle. Overall, it is an excellent shoulder camera bag.

I bought this bag about a year ago because I travel alot for work. I usually bring my camera with me along with a work laptop. This bag is the perfect solution! I have packed my Nikon D90, kit 18-105, 50mm 1.4, Tokina 11-16, and SB 600 along with a Dell 15 inch computer on several trips. It is also big enough to carry my Nikon 70-200 VRII attached. It looks very professional especially when traveling and wearing a suit and tie. It doesnt attract alot of attention or scream, "Ive got $3000 worth of camera equipment in here along with a laptop".

The bag is very well made with several neat features like the top zipper that allows you to access your camera without exposing everything in your bag to the world. We just got through taking this camera bag for a week trip to California, so we really put it through its paces. The bag is lightweight and has many pockets to put accessories in. This case was a tad tight for my new Fuji, but like most of my reviews I let a few weeks go by so I get some use out of the product before reviewing t so the review will be more accurate.

I get tired of reading reviews where the reviewer's words make it obvious they just ordered the product or just took it out of the box and are for all practical purposes reviewing online stats about it or pure looks rather than actual real world use of it.

As mentioned, when I first tried to fit my camera into this case it was a tight fit and the flap did not want to stay closed.

I found that "working" the leather like I did a baseball mitt when I was a kid did the trick.

For the non baseball players that means flexing the leather case a bunch with and without the cam in it.

Especially, pulling and twisting on the leather flap lightly a bunch of times will break in or stretch the leather so the flap will remain closed.

The leather seems of good quality and I have no complaints about the stitching or magnetic clasp.

Once properly broken in the case fits the camera snugly and the flap will stay securely closed like you would want it to, but also allow you to easily put the camera in and pull it back out for use.

You can attach the case to your belt and as it is just large enough for the camera it protects the camear while remaining comfortable to care.

I found inserting the camera in upside down, lens outward on my right side (I am right handed) worked best for me to bring the camera up in the ready to shoot position.

Of course, it would work well in a purse as well.

I bought this case with the Fuijifilm Finepix Z800Exr and both products were delivered promptly. The camera fits somewhat loosely inside the case as it moves around but there's no danger of it falling out. The case protects the camera from dust, scratches, and minor falls. Anything more than that would damage the camera. There's also a belt clip on the case which comes in handy when you have your hands full.

I got this as a basic case for my Fuji ZD5 FD. Fits like a glove. Well built case but the magnetic latch also keeps the camera quickly accessible without having to fumble with snaps or zippers.

A few reviews seems to suggest it didn't fit their camera, but it's not clear which model they were trying to fit. But for the ZD5, it fits perfectly.

The only feature missing (which would have been simple and unobtrusive) is a space for a spare memory card or two. I dock it one star for that, but otherwise, exactly what I was looking for.

When I got it, one look told me that this case was just TOO BULKY. On the plus side, it would provide great protection to the lens.

The good news was that I ended up buying a different Tamrac product, a carry case for the camera and extra lens--I am very satisfied with that product.

So, while this product didn't meet my needs, a different Tamrac product was perfect.

Store my lens with the hood reversed: Nice snug fit for the Nikon 70-200 f4. Do the same for the Nikon 17-55 f2.8, and that lens will not fit, which why I took off a star. 17-55 fits snugly, wo. the hood. (Maybe I need the large case for the 17-55?)

Put the Kirk lens collar on the 70-200, and that will not fit.

Overall, the case what I expected from Tamrac, given how useful the Velocity 8x bag is. Thick, tough, and a great way to protect a lens when not in use.

I saw the 5-star reviews and was very interested and surprised at the modest cost, but then, in small print, I saw "PU leather." This case should be described as "leatherette" or "imitation leather" rather than "leather." Unlike real leather, polyurethane is subject to damage by heat and cold. I find this description deceptive.

I ended up buying a real leather case for double the cost from a buy-it-now Chinese supplier at another marketplace. Nicely done; smells like leather.

It might not be made of leather but the material is durable and it protects my camera and lens when its just sitting there, unused. It hold the nexus 5r with an 18-55mm lens and you don't have to remove the flash attachment if you plan on using it often. Only negative to this cover, as I'm assuming is the case with other covers, is the fact that you to remove the cover if you want to get to the battery/sd card compartment and if you need to charge the camera. Minor issue over the delivery of what was promised.

As other reviewers mentioned this case isn't real leather. It has a fake leather look and feel which is fine by me as it will still resist moisture and spills. The top pops off easily for quick photo opportunities and can be completely removed for added comfort during longer photo sessions.

The case because it screws on to the tripod connection spot (but still allows a tripod mount when the case is on) and becomes a more permanent part of the camera. It really only needs to be removed when changing the SD card or removing the battery. One added bonus of the base is that I find that the comfort of the camera is improved greatly. Before we had the case I found our NEX-5N to be uncomfortable to hold for more than 5 minutes because the grip on the right side is undersized for the camera's weight. The case adds just enough additional bulk to the grip to improve the comfort of long term picture sessions without drastically increasing the size.

Overall this case is a nice addition and I would recommend it to friends. Even though it's not real leather and removing the base is a minor annoyance when charging the battery, the functional design and added comfort to holding are well worth it. Especially at a price point under $30.

Just took my camera to India and I used this case to protect it from scratches. Worked well. The main case snaps off when taking many pictures, and quickly flaps open when taking a quick shot. The case doesn't add much bulk at all, which is great when traveling, and allows you to use the strap that comes with the camera (I haven't used the strap that came with the case). It allows you to keep the flash on the camera, even though I never used the flash during two weeks in India and 400 pictures.

Don't expect this case to protect the camera against anything else though it's not sealed, so won't protect against rain, dust, or dirt. It also isn't cushioned so won't protect the camera from smashes or impacts a clear cost of having a slim profile. The material is fake leather (a plastic composite), but it seems durable and looks fine. The inside is lined with thin felt.

End verdict: I would gladly repurchase this case.

This is a wonderful bag to hold my Nikon P520. I have all the cords,straps and covers tucked nicely away in here. The only reason why it is getting 4 stars is because there was a nic in one of the stichings below the handle. Overall, this product was everything I expected. It was probably even better quality. However, you need to keep in mind that this case comes in different sizes but a limited number of sizes. They are not made for specific cameras. I purchased the WP110 camera which is listed as being compatible for many of the Casio Exilim cameras. I used it with an older model Z40 and a newer model S10. The case worked really well with the Z40. However (although no fault of the case), I couldn't read the LCD screen on the Z40 underwater. It was like looking at it in bright sunlight. So I used the S10... I could see the LCD fine on this camera, but it is a lot thinner and therefore smaller than the case. Both of the cameras slid around a bit, but the smaller the camera, the more it will slide. As a result, many pictures will have a black shadow from the tube on the bottom left and/or right corners. You can line it up, but that's kind of a pain. And it's hard to take vertical shots. Also, the S10 camera's flash is close to the lens... so close in fact, that sometimes it flashes partially inside the lens tube. This creates a bright white glare in the top right corner of the pictures. Oddly, this affected pictures more on land than underwater. In summary, the case is good quality, easy to use, and works well. However, it works best when the camera is closer to the maximum size for the model. Otherwise, the camera will move around causing black shadows and/or white glare spots. You can always crop these out later though, so it's still way better than using a disposable underwater camera and cheaper than buying a case made specifically for the camera.

Mind you, this is not for deep water scuba diving... I used it for my casio exilim camera (zseries) and it worked really well. Not a drop of water on my camera! I used this while we were on vacation, and got some really funny pictures in the poolboth above and under the water. The pictures are better than a crappy disposable. It certainly took the stress out of taking my camera to the beach, toono worry about sand ruining my cameraand I had room to stash my (small) cell phone inside when we were wading in the spray one morning. (which is probably not recommended, but it worked out ok for a short time) The only downside, as mentioned before, is that the very small cameras will tend to shift insideleaving you with a picture of the ring from the lens part. Leaving the lens on the camera partially zoomed to line it up and stuffing some paper towels around the camera to make the fit more snug helped somewhat. It was worth the money for casual/recreational use for funny "happy hour in the pool" pictures.

I use it on my Canon SD780 IS and also on my past camera Canon SD1000. First off the hard case by Canon is $175, that's getting close to the cost of my camera. If I was scuba diving weekly, I would than consider it. For me, the case allowed me to take my camera on trips I wouldn't be able to take photos and videos. I've used it on the beach, pool parties, snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands and River Rafting / Kayaking down the Kern River (level 4). Haven't had any leakage and gotten some great footage. My only dislike is that it doesn't fit my camera perfectly. It will move around unless you put some paper towels inside to prevent that from happening. If it does move around than your picture gets a little blocked by the casing. It however, can be a cool effect in some photos, but generally not. I've recently switched from paper towels to foam. This works a lot better. For the price it is definitely worth it....it's either that or never having incredible underwater photos/videos. I give it 5 stars for the price of allowing me to take my camera underwater. It also comes with a shoelace strap to put around your neck. Buy it... you won't regret it!!!

Used with a Canon SD940 and SD780. Pretty easy to get into. Keeps water out. Only problem is adjusting it not to block the flash. The front opens up when you're not underwater so you can take clearer pictures and screw back in when you're near water again. It floats when in water so you don't have to worry about losing the camera. The neck strap detaches for when you don't need it. Overall, it works great...camera stays dry and you get your underwater shots/videos.

There's not to much to say. It's a nice compact camera bag. I wanted something that I could take my NEX in when traveling light and not necessarily interested in taking all my extra lenses and power adapters.

This bag will hold an NEX3 (or most other NEX cameras I would think) with the standard 18-55 zoom on it and still have room in the bag for one of the compact lenses. It will not hold the NEX with the 55 to 210 lens on it. However... you can take the lens off the body (covering the sensor with a body cap) and place the body and a 55-210 lens into the bag for transport. You'll just have to mount the lens after taking both out of the bag in that scenario.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Like other Lowepro bags I've tried and that I own, this is a fairly inexpensive but solidly built and thoughtfully designed carrying case. There's a lengthy strap for carrying the camera over the shoulder, but there's a belt loop if you prefer to carry it on your belt or attached to some other strap.

There's a fairly solid inner "shell" that's designed to protect the camera, and there's a divider inside that can be adjusted to create two compartments of variable size, or it can be removed completely to create on bigger compartment. What's nice is that they've designed the inner case so that it can be removed completely it's secured inside the bag by velcro and by an inner flap. If you do that, you can make it into a nice little protective "box" that could secure the camera inside of a purse or other bag. There's also a single small inner pocket big enough to carry an extra SD card inside one of the plastic cases they come with.

I don't have a Sony NEX, but I use it to carry my two Drift Innovation HD170 Stealth Action Camera. Both fit in nicely even with their mounting clips attached. This would also fit, easily, my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5, along with the battery charger. Like another reviewer here said, it would be nice to have another pocket inside or along the outside of this bag, but otherwise this is a good design and a solid bag.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This camera bag measures about 6 inches wide at the upper end, 5 3/4 inches tall, and 3 1/2 inches deep. Although this bag was designed for the Sony NEX series, I use it for my Canon PowerShot G11 Camera and I have plenty of room for spare battery packs and spare memory cards.

The bag has a 2 in 1 design. The padded mini case can be removed and has it's own velcro closures so you can use it as a mini-bag. (It barely closes over my Canon Gll, but it works well enough.) It even contains a little leash that you can attach to the camera strap securing them together. I really like this removable feature and I think I will get much more use out the mini-bag than the larger bag.

I have been able to put the NEX C3 camer abody, 16 mm lens, 18-55 mm lens and the external flash in this case.

The case is very well built and we really like it.

Its compact size is both a pro and a con as you cant put anything more than what I have described..

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This case is targeted towards Sony NEX cameras, which explains the strange shape of its inner case, which has a cross-section of 2x2 inches. It's removable and attached to the main case with velcro. It's a little difficult to remove because of the tight dimensions of the main case and the velcro near the front hidden under a flap. You may want to leave the front un-velcroed if you anticipate removing the inner case.

The inner case has a movable divider, secured with velcro. Flaps overlap and secure with ... yes, velcro, but not a weatherproof seal by any means. However, the outer case is zippered and covered with a flap ... again, not quite waterproof, but should suffice for un-extreme conditions. There is a small, buttoned leash for securing the inner to the outer case.

The main case has a little pocket for a memory card, and a belt loop. Not sure where the "built in microfiber cloth" is, unless they mean the floor and insides of the inner case. Oh, wait ... there it is! Cleverly hidden in a pouch where the lid attaches, like a silver tongue.

The outside fabric is an attractive, textured material. Weight is 0.4 lbs.

While this travel case fit snugly over my a77 with battery grip attached, it was extremely tight to get over. Secondly I was constantly worried that the snug fit would break my lens hood. This might start working better over time as the material stretches. But I don't have time to continually work the case over my camera and has largely sat in my luggage this trip

For a small DSLR like a D90, it's OK. It barely fits my Sony A-77 but not with the vertical grip and certainly not with my 70-300. I have a big honking case but I'm trying to streamline for the Disney trip. I had to poke a small hole on the bottom to use with the Black Rapid connector. Oh, and spray it with Scotch Guard to make it water resistant. You'll probably have to air this thing out for a month. It has a very strong chemical smell. The Scotch Guard actually masks the smell a bit. Remember to spray it outdoors.

Update: 4 days at Disney and there is a little wear at the bottom where the velcro straps attaches to each other. But it's very good at keeping the camera clean. It also provides a decent amount of protection. As a plus, it also acts as a barrier between my hip/leg and the camera. It's light and doesn't affect the performance of my Black Rapid 7. Overall, worth the money.
