I bought a Sony DSC-HX30V around Christmas time and needed a case to go with it. This has proven to be a great product as this fits my camera and a couple of small accessories very nicely. I can even stash a few dollars and ID/license in and use it as a "purse". The straps are adjustable and can be extended to wear cross-body or shortened to quickly throw it over the shoulder or, it can be removed altogether and the case can be tucked into a larger bag. Additionally, the case is not a hard plastic, but it's somewhat firm. I've not dropped my camera while using this case, but it seems like it would provide some protection if I happen to. Great buy!!

The shell is sturdy and the outer material seems to be of high quality and water proof (though I haven't tested it in water yet :) ).

The back side of the shell has a soft interior which prevents mild strokes damages, but the front side of the shell lacks softness and I'm worried about it.

Also despite there is a little space in the inner front side to put extra stuff in, but as I said previously, lack of soft material makes it even more risky for the camera in case of collapsing on the front side.

I hadn't found a better option at the time of purchase, so I've to stick to this for now.

I've read other reviews about how big this bag was....even too big, but I didn't find it to be that big. I was hoping to be able to hold all my lenses & a quantum flash, but I have to be choosy about which lenses I take along. The only reason that I rated it 4 stars, rahter than 5 is two-fold. 1 is due to the fact that the bag is designed to carry lenses under both bodies & even under other lenses. This can be inconvenient. I would much rather have the bag be a little longer to where you can just reach in & grab the lens you want rather than have to pull a lens or camera body out & then remove a velcro divider to get to the lens you want. Of course you have your favorite lenses so those are the ones that you want to keep up top. I just pack the bag based on what I'm going to do....wedding, portrait session etc. And secondly, while I'm nit-pickin', the 2 pockets on the inside of the flap are almost useless if you have camera bodies with the extra battery pack attached (such as Nikon's MBD-10 etc.) because if you have a lens(es) underneath the camera body then the body comes all the way to the top of the bag so there's no room inside the bag to put a meter in that meter pocket or anything inside the "film" pocket without putting pressure on that gear and distorting the bag when you zip it. With that being said there are padded pockets on the side & 2 pockets on the front that are both very nice & convenient for extra batteries & memory cards (although don't be fooled by the pictures...the fancy little see-through pouch with the filters & memory cards does not come with it....it's extra). The quality & construction is top notch...no issue with that whatsoever. I got such a great deal on this bag that the 614 wasn't an option & airline travel is a consideration for me as well. If this review reads too negatively, it shouldn't. I just had a hard time deciding which bag to purchase so I thought I'd try to help you all out. It's a high-quality bag, it can get heavy when packed but can't they all.

I have bought several camera bags over the years most from Tamrac. Like everything Tamrac, this bag is VERY well constructed out of the highest quality materials. The layout is spacious, easily fitting two DSLRs with battery packs and large zoom lenses fact to face. I also get two large Speedlite flash units, four additional lenses, hoods, chargers, batteries, AC adapter, filters, and lots of other photo paraphernalia in the Super Pro 13 with room to spare. When I bought this case I also purchased several additional Tamrac accessory cases. My advice would be to buy a couple of Tamrac S.A.S. Compact Filter Cases and hold off on the other stuff until you find out what won't fit in the compartments that come standard with this case.

When loaded with my gear this bag tips the scales at 47 pounds. I'm NOT planning on using this bag for air travel. With bulging with full pockets, gear, and a laptop it is TOO BIG to be considered a carry-on unless you run into a kind gate agent. Don't bet on it though, since there is NO provision to lock anything, so security, if checked, will be a problem. I travel a lot by car and RV and plan to use this bag on the road, so it will get a good deal of wear and tear. It's great in the trunk of a car.

I depend on this bag every day to protect some very expensive gear. I could spend two or three times what this bag costs and not get equal quality. I have NEVER had a piece of equipment damaged in any way when stored in a Tamrac bag. I consider the cost good insurance.

NOTE: The bag does NOT have a "pocket" in the back that could be slipped over a wheeled carryall.

I did purchase this case (originally at full price but was able to work out a discount later on). My DSC-RX1 arrived a few weeks before the case did and as a result I wound up NOT using the camera right away because I did not feel comfortable going "out and about" with my RX1 'naked' and without proper protection. The leather case is pricey yes, but I have to say that it is created using top quality leather > One sniff and I reminded of the time when I worked for my Grandfather as a youth; He raised Arabian Horses and used some really fine & expensive leather Saddles back then...

The stitching on the case is really nice too and I like the super soft extra padding sewn inside. No flaws that I can see. Very protective and yes, just to comment on what was said, the SONY logo is indeed centered perfectly and imbedded into the front of the housing. I think that the design is quite genious actually, especially in real world use where it is so easy to quickly unclip and remove the top cover for a quick photo while leaving a nice protective portion on the camera itself. I also find that portion of the case which is screwed into the tripod mount also makes the camera easier to hold and compose a shot. I basically felt compelled to write this review to counteract Robert's 1 star "review" below. I am very pleased with this case and its overall design. I always liked my case for my DSC-R1 that I bought back in 2005 (and still going strong) but I missed many a shot since I could never get the R1 out of the case quickly enough... that won't be a problem with the LCJRXB/B~! No regrets...

The selling point for the RX 1 is that you get a full frame camera in a small package. I have never before purchased a case for a compact camera, but because the RX 1 is expensive I ordered this case to protect my investment. This was a mistake. The case will certainly protect the camera, and it is well made, but it's unnecessarily bulky and obviates the principal reason for owning the RX 1. A peculiarity of the design of the case is that the upper part is fully detached from the sleeve that the body slots into, so that once removed to use the camera one has to find somewhere to stash it.

I was thinking of getting another half case that is available for the RX1, but none also offered a full case for the camera as well. The case is solid and well made, smells like real leather. It is two pieces, the bottom half case and the top cover, which connect via a snap at the bottom. When assembled and installed on the RX1, only the hooks for straps are exposed, the rest is snugly tucked away in the case. I would highly recommend this case as it is top notch, although some are going to look at the price and balk. I'm glad I made the investment in this full case as opposed to just a half case, especially when considering how much I love my RX1 and want to have a nice secure way to store it.

It's bulky, heavy, ugly, doesn't come with a strap and especially : extremely impractical. The front of the case detaches completely if you open it to take a picture, leaving you with the problem of where to put it. And did I mention it was bulky, heavy? So one needs to carry a bag to stash the front part of the case, but if one carries a bag, why not keep the camera in it directly. By the time you prepare your camera, your window for the shot is long gone any how. Oh, and the ugly thing is way, way, way overpriced. And too ugly to take out of the closet.

This is an extremely well constructed and designed leather case. It functions very well and provides enought additional grip (when used as a half case) to obviate the need for the poorly conceived Sony Thumb Grip. It is quite expensive but worth the cost IMO.

update: i ordered another vanguard case, the VGC-13, after i got this one. they make a good pair, but if you're trying to choose one, get the other one. it's bigger and less expensive with the same quality. (otherwise, you'll end up getting it anyway as your gear selection grows.) in retrospect, i would recommend this more as storage for just your camera (w/cables, memory cards, filters, speedlight) or if you have a small (2-3 lens) outfit. get the vgc-13 if you have a lot of lenses (more than 5) and/or a long telephoto lens.

i ordered the vanguard hard case because i didn't want to just toss my extra lenses in a backpack. also, i live in california, so you never know when an earthquake might hit.

when it arrived today--beating the shipping estimate by over a week--i was fairly impressed out of the box. it's brushed aluminum hardware and sides, backed with slightly ribbed ABS plastic on the outside. on the inside, there's a waffle-foam top, a two-layer foam bottom, several rubber section dividers, and a dice-pattern foam sheet. the dividers slide together into any number of configurations, the foam can be used to custom-fit pieces. you also get two keys for the front locks and a shoulder strap that clips onto the side.

it's a rugged-seeming package that doesn't look cheap, but is a bit on the small side--amazon offers no specs, but this is the VGP-13S model, the dimensions are 15.75" x 9.9" x 6.9"--although compact might be a more politically-correct term.

after loading it up with some gear, here's what i was able to fit into it:

-70-300 tele w/ hood

-12-24 wide angle w/ hood

-15 fisheye w/ hood

-50 prime

-flash

-two 3-filter kits and 3 loose filters

-two extra batteries.

obviously, this is not a solution to hold all your gear if you have much more than 2 lenses and one body. then again, the relatively small size does offer a degree of portability, even if its just from one end of your studio to another. the handle's nice and sturdy, but the nonpadded strap would probably get uncomfortable after more than about 5 minutes, although the case isn't all that heavy loaded up, unless you fill it with bricks or something.

I decided to give the Vanguard 5 stars because this unit did what i wanted it to do, which was secure my gear in the event of any unforseen accidents, like accidentally siting on a lens or filter i've left on the couch. even without cutting out the foam and fitting them into the partitioned dividers, it held the gear steady in the upright position--no jostling or rustling. i may leave the foam sheet untouched, so i can reconfigure it easier, but if you want to have a dedicated home for specific items you don't always need in your camera bag, this isn't a bad choice. i couldn't fit some of my lens pouches, cables, and the like, but those things aren't as in dire need of being properly secured as all your precious glass and/or body(s), so no biggie.

overall, this is a versatile case that's just big enough to be a stay-at-home unit, and just small enough to venture out w/ you on a shoot. does exactly what you'd expect, has a professional appearance, and is a good looker to boot. if you're an extreme gearhound, at the price it might be worth it to get two, although you might also want to look into the wheeled model, which is a bit bigger, for around twice the price, especially if you plan on carrying this around a lot.

bottom line: why expose expensive glass and/or your camera to danger or possible damage? protect your investment -after all, it's cheaper than sending a bag full of lenses in for warranty service if your drunk uncle roy has a mishap while watching WWF or NASCAR.

After looking at and using MANY brands of equipment case for photography, sound and video equipment I finally discovered Vanguard Diamond ABS cases--and will never go back to another brand again. These are indestructible, lightweight, lockable, very classy looking and most important of all about half the price of comparable cases from other name-brand manufacturers. I've used them now for over a year of intensive use in my high school video and photography classes and they still look brand new. Trust me, other cases costing twice as much did not survive!

This particular case is the perfect size for a large digital still camera (such as the Canon Digital Rebel) and an accessory lens or two. I also use this size for my Sony PDX-10 video cameras and the case is deep enough to keep the mic attached all the time, saving setup time as well as wear and tear. The case is just barely big enough for that, which is perfect for me but if you want accessories in the case with a video camera I'd reccomend the next size up instead.

The pick-n-pluck foam makes it easy to customize the case to fit your equipment. No complaints, and highly recommended.

(Okay, one complaint. Annoyingly, amazon doesn't seem to tell you the dimensions of the various Vanguard cases, nor sometimes even the model number so you're left guessing which case you're ordering. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, right amazon?!)

I ordered this case because it was a little deeper than others without being overly bulky. I wanted to fit my digi Rebel XT without removing the battery grip. This case does, although it is very snug (I removed the 3/4" piece of foam below the "pick and pluck" layer for a little extra room).

I bought this bag at same time I bought the Coolpix S3500. I bought the camera because it fits in my pocket and can be easily carried when I am out and about, unlike my Canon 60d. I chose this bag because it holds the camera and will fit in my pocket when the camera is in it.

The bag is not large enough to hold much more, so if you want to carry more than the camera, then look for a little larger bag. But if you want a sturdy, well made bag that will protect your camera and fit comfortably in your pocket or purse, this is a very good choice.

The measurements given by Amazon are wrong for this bag. Amazon says it is 7.2"x4.5"x1.5". They are not correct. The bag is smaller than that. Empty, the bag is 5"x3.5x7/8". With my camera inside, the measurements are 5"x3.5"x1.25"

You can see from the measurements there is not room for much else, the bag is pretty much at it's limit, I could probably fit an SD card in the case (without plastic case), and there is a pocket for it. But I don't expect to make use of it. I have an 8GB SD card in the camera, and that should be enough for photos and a few video clips. If not, I'll replace it with a 16GB SD card

As already indicated above, my highest priority in choosing this bag was being able to protect my camera when it is in my pocket. This small bag does that very well.

Using it as a carry on:

If the feet an handle where just a little smaller it would be, with out the wheels, within the 22"x14"x9" Standard however; it is only about 1/4" over... might be ok. The Pelican 1510 carry-on is a better choice if it will fit what you need. The big plus this case has is that its interior space is about 25% bigger than the 1510 and if you need that space this case may be an option.

Quality of the case;

The case itself is not as strong as I would like but I think it will be OK. The case is made in China and is low price at the cost of quality. The problem is that the Pelican case is not that much more and looks to be much higher quality. The hinges and fasteners are lower grade. The sides will flex with a little pressure, not sure how much weight they would handle but I would not stand on it. When you fill it up, so that the top foam is pressing against the contents, the lid when closed bulges and doesn't fit well to the bottom.

Pros

The big plus with this case is its interior space and removable wheels making it "almost" Carry on size. When you look at interior dimensions this case has the most space of anything that I could find that had a hard exterior and foam inserts.

we bought 5 of these as travel bags for a product our company sells. First time out one of them busted through on the sides and part of one of the locks broke off. The locking mechanisim is very flimsy. The interior packaging is very good but the case itself is pretty weak.

The product came in and fit the description perfectly and at a very decent size for my needs. I needed a TSA approved box that will favor the security needs for airline travel and this Aluminum Hard Case will get that job done. The reason for 4 stars is because of the key quality to lock the locking latches are very easy to bend and overtime of use, it appears to bend in time. Another factor to consider is the lock latch itself is not enough lock strength however, once lock, the latch has a hole where you can buy an optional TSA combination lock for added security which appears it was designed to be that way.. The key lock isn't good enough for my concerns since I'm using this case for Firearms and weaponry.

One thing I loved was the pre-cut form for items you want to secure in with the shape of your device. Just simply press your device hard on the form so you can see the print and than push out the shape.... The result is you now created Foam space to fit your item in placement.

Overall very great box with the exception of low quality lock keys and having to buy combination locks to have the locking method to optimize locking security.

I needed a small sturdy case for air travel. This case subcompact case is excellent. It is surprisingly well made and locks 2 ways. It complies with air travel requirements and holds more than I planned. Pocket pistol, holster, 4 clips and spare ammo fit easily and snugly into the well padded inside. I don't think the gorilla throwing this around can damage it. I suspect all sizes are as well made as this subcompact one. I'll be buying other sizes in the future for larger pistols.

Tamrac aero 40 is the best choice for my Nikon D90, which was pinned down to after a lot of online searching for a good camera bag. I can fit my D90, with an additional battery, lens hood, data transfer cable, filter case, and lens cleaning pen.

Originally bought the Lowepro Rezo 50 but quickly returned it for this sweet bag for a few major reasons.

First, I have a Panasonic ZS7 with the dimensions of 4.1"x1.3"x2.4" which translate into a perfectly snug fit inside the Apex 20 as opposed to any other Lowepro case of a larger design. If you have a camera as thick as mine inside, the other compartment in front will only fit something as thick as the included strap, extra battery, and extra SD card collectively. For me, that's more than enough so I'm a happy camper--literally.

The second big selling point of this bag is its "SlipLock" attachment belt tab on the back. It shares the feature with Rezo line of products in that you're not limited to putting a strap or belt through the belt loop. In fact, it can be unhinged with velcro on one side and attached to ANY secure strap or loop (i.e. straps and loops on a backpack) with confidence. That's because an extra flap of velcro folds over the strap perfectly securing it in place even if it's tugged or caught on something.

Finally, the advertised weather-cover is a neat little add-on that caught my eye for when I do go out into the backcountry. One caveat, though, is that it is not completely waterproof so don't trust the case to withstand torrential downpours for too long. The cover also doesn't fit very securely over the case when fully stuffed to its brim. Keep in mind the cover only covers the front too. Nonetheless, water does bead gently over the cover and the rest of the material the case is made of so it does have a useful, practical purpose.

For $15, this little bag is by far the most versatile camera bag I have been able to find and depending on your camera size and purpose, it gets the job done very well.

This is a great little bag, soft interior, well padded,not too much extra space, the all weather cover hides cleverly away, and unlike the rezo, it does not have a random velcro flap covering the zipper

I am using this for my panasonic lumix tz3 and it fits perfectly, I strongly recommend this case, and it could be helpful to compare your camera's dimentions to the tz3's, dont go too much bigger

This is a very nice case. It is rugged, provides room for the camera and an extra battery and memory card. This is not the case for you if you want something slim that hugs the camera. It won't fit in your pocket, but it will protect the camera nicely.

I have an Canon SD870 and despite LowePro's web site saying the Apex 10 was compatible, it wasn't. I couldn't get the camera to fit in the case (Apex 10) without really jamming it in there and there wasn't any room left over for the accessories. I returned it and ordered the Apex 20, and now I am much happier, although the case is slightly larger.

The Lowepro Apex 20 AW is the best camera case I have owned, hands down. In fact, this is the second one I have purchased for a second camera. Very well designed and extremely functional.

This time I am using the case for a new Panasonic DMC-ZS7 compact camera. Per other reviews, the fit is perfect, although there is not a lot of spare room. I am able to fit a battery and a couple of memory cards in the case, along with the camera. But really, that is all I need. I WANTED a snug fit to ensure the camera is protected.

What I like:

Extremely good construction, with great protection for the camera and solid stitching

Good quality zipper, with a bit of moisture protection

Very well designed belt attachment. The dual velcro system means the camera will never inadvertently come off the belt

Two separate compartments one for the camera, and one for gear with a covered pocket for memory cards and a nice spot for a battery

Orange on the inside to make the contents of the case easy to see

Integrated all-weather cover that remains out-of-side until you use it

To improve:

The all-weather case doesn't quite cover as much of the overall case as I would like, but would provide some rain protection in a pinch (minor)

The design of the rubber bottom means that I am constantly mixing up the top and bottom of the camera (minor)

Overall I am extremely happy with this case and would strongly recommend it to someone looking for a case for their digital camera. No regrets!

The case is beautiful leather. Seems sturdy and well made. Would have been more functional if the belt holder was open ended, I thought. I ordered it for my son, but found it very feminine when it arrived. I had to give it to someone else.

I received this item within a week of ordering it. The case looked exactly like what was pictured. It is real leather and the quality is great. The only thing I dislike about the product is that it is a perfect fit for my camera which leaves no room for my spare set of batteries. Can you really complain about a perfect fit though?

I loved this item, till I lost it. It has a slide on clip which can fall off and be lost...luckily my camera wasn't in it at the time. It's beautiful and has extra compartments for cash, credit cards, battery or memory cards. Very classy looking, just keep better track of it than I did:(

I love this camera case. It is the perfect size and it is super fuctional. I also like the it has two built in slots for addtional cd cards. I recently went to Thailand, and I know I was really rough on this case, and it still looks brand new. Very happy with this purchase!
