Review of Lowepro Primus Minimus All Weather Backpack (Black)

When I was looking for a camera bag I simply wanted something that I could hike around with and take on a plane. Not only does it work well in both of these situations I am also confident in traveling in crowded places with it since it is only accessible from the side facing your back. Its all weather cover has proven to come in handy while living in the rainy northwest as well. Something else that's really neat about this backpack is that it can be converted into a normal spacious backpack by removing all the partitions inside. As a side note the partitions feel really strong with a plastic backing inside. Another plus is the easy side access so you can grab your camera quickly.

Things that may bother some people is that it does have a lot of adjustable straps meaning there are a lot (15 or so) of loose straps everywhere. On the plus side to that it is the most comfortable backpack I have owned, but the straps are everywhere. Also the all weather cover is a tight fit and sort of hard to stuff back in its pouch. Lastly the adjustable tripod holder takes some muscle to move since it's a matter of pushing a Velcro system up and down, but you shouldn't have to move it more than once unless you have more than 1 tripod...or fishing pole like me :).

In conclusion if you are looking for a backpack that you can hike with, carry some extra gear, that's comfortable and secure, and of course able to pack a camera body and a couple of lenses this is the bag for you. Also, if your looking for more room they come in different sizes I think.

The bag fit all my needs and provided more than I was expecting so I gave it 5/5 stars.

I was looking for a backpack that would be comfortable for day hikes, carry my d90 with 2-3 lenses and accessories, and with a tripod holder. I also wanted room to carry a light jacket and other non-camera things in the top compartment. Finally, I wanted quick access to my camera without taking the bag off, a pocket for a water bottle and a netbook compartment. This backpack does all of this perfectly! I was initially concerned about the side access pocket and the outer compartment that I use to hold my netbook but they both work great. The quick access door takes a little practice if you want to remove your camera without slinging the bag around but once you get used to it it's easy to do. The outer compartment is perfect if you have a netbook in a protective sleeve that you want to carry through the airport, etc.

Velbon DMSP-SM4 Plastic Case for Digital Memory Reviews

I have used these for a few years to store SD flash media for my Nikon D80 camera and they work well because they can be hooked to a belt loop or to a camera case. Unfortunately the product for the CF flash media requires the use of a plastic sleeve into which the CF chip is inserted. I think the product would be better if it were designed to fit the CF chip exactly and thus eliminating the need for the sleeve like the SD version of the product. The need for the sleeve caused me to rate the product lower.

Lowepro Santiago 20 Compact Camera Case Reviews

I have a "Canon S95" and also the "Caselogic TBC-302" case which I love but at the suggestion of another reviewer I bought this case just to try it out. I found it to be a good case and made well but there is not any padding inside and no room for anything in there but an extra SD card if positioned right. I like to keep a couple extra batteries in the case so I prefer the "Caselogic TBC-302". See my review there.

Lowepro's LP3663 Santiago 20 case is the same as the regular Santiago 20 case, except for the gray color. That being the case, why it should cost over 30% more is a bit baffling.

Typical for Lowepro, build quality is mostly good. The case is stiffened to hold its shape under a reasonable about of pressure, and has what feels like a nylon covering over a stiff but flexible EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) shell. The case isn't "crushproof", but it should hold up fairly well under most general use conditions. There are no external pockets or compartments.

The belt loop is made of some kind of thin synthetic material. At only 1.5" wide and 3" across, the loop is too loose for my taste. If you have a narrower belt, which is typically true for most people, the case will slide around quite a bit. Widening the loop and tightening it up to 2" across would be a better idea. The case has two sets of zipper handles, so when worn on your belt, it's generally more convenient to open the case using both hands.

The case also comes with a thin nylon shoulder strap. The strap has a thin plastic clip which could easily break. This is an example of skimping by Lowepro, who have a troubling tendency to use plastic parts in critical applications, for many of their cases, such as their Toploader series.

Inside, the Santiago 20 has a pocket on the front side of the case. Depending on your camera, you might be able to squeeze a memory card, battery, or both in this space. There is an elastic strap, on the belt loop side of the case, that can be used secure the camera in place. The case is designed to open only about 60 degrees, which helps keep your camera from accidentally spilling out.

I got this case specifically for a Canon S95 point and shoot, a camera with straight sides and relatively sharp corners. I already had a softer case with more padding, which was fine for basic protection, but was looking for a rigid case for added protection. Although it's possible to squeeze both a spare battery and SD card inside the case, closing the zipper was a little tough, so I usually just put the camera in.

Overall, while this is a well constructed case, I found that it was a bit small for the S95, and I ended up giving the case to someone who had a slightly smaller camera. If you have any doubt whether this case is big enough, it's highly advisable that you physically verify that your camera fits by testing it out in a store. Unless gray is worth paying a premium, you might want to look at the regular black Santiago 20 case. If this case is too small, you might take a look at Lowepro's Santiago 30 case.

Received the package and immediately tried to set up my gear. First thing I tried to do was use the handy side compartment. Much to my disappointment, my camera was not easily inserted and even more difficultly removed. I have a Canon 7D. One problem with this bag is the zipper does not unzip far enough. The zipper stops shy of 180 degrees leaving a lot of resistance with the flap. I didn't have my battery grip on at the time, but still had to take the bag completely off and fight to get the camera out. Now that I have my battery grip on, there is no chance of using this access (using this access compartment was the selling point). On top of the bad zipper design, one of the shoulder straps is also in the way. The computer bag was a tad too small for my laptop. I couldn't get it completely zipped without feeling like the zipper was going to detonate. Finally, it's big! Really big! It can't possibly be used as a carry-on. If this was tried to be carried onto an aircraft, I'm sure, because of the size, the airline would make you check it at the gate which would defeat the purpose. I know it wouldn't fit under a seat, and you would be lucky to get this giant bag in the largest overhead compartment.

For me, this bag is unusable in many ways.

I bought the purple case for my wife last week and she loves it. Her new Lumix ZS20 fits great in it and the purple color is exactly what she was hoping for based on the Amazon pictures. The case and strap seem well made and should last for the life of the camera and probably much more. The inside is a nice, soft, light color fabric almost suede-like. All other details are what you would expect from a case.

I also like the fact that this newish merchant seems to care about feedback and they seem eager to communicate with us customers.

This is a great case water resistant, cushy to protect against bumps, easy to open with the velcro closure. And cute! It fits my Canon S95 fine I need to stretch it a teeny bit, but that makes the fit snug, like putting on a sock. Best thing of all is that it's a lightweight soft case that easily folds so if I'm not using it, I can easily put in my pocket or purse and it takes up almost no room.

The only thing I would change is the little hole where the camera strap goes through. It looks like it's intended for the case to remain hanging off the strap when you take the camera out, but that doesn't work for me. I've put my strap through and every time I take the camera out, to get it out I need to pull the strap out of the hole, defeating the purpose of having it in the hole in the first place. Not a big deal though, I just shove the case in my pocket.

It looks very nice, but I'm a little skeptical about the magnets that secure the camera in the case. I had a purse with a magnetic closure that didn't last long. This is a $500. Camera that I need to trust it to be safe and secure. I also have ordered a camera cover to protect the camera while in use and I'm hoping that it will fit in this case...as it's a tight squeeze puting it in as it is. It could be problematic if I will need to take the camera cover off each time I store it in its case. It arrived in time and was nicely packaged! Not so sure it was worth the $25.00. Only time will tell if it holds up good. I will repost when the cover comes for the camera, to tell you if it still fits in the case with the protective cover on the camera.

I like this case for the fit snug with magnetic closure. I've had this product for about three weeks and so far it offers protection for my Samsung Galaxy Camera I have nothing to compare it with but I prefer a more padding on the screen side of the cover but other than that I would highly recommend this product.

This is a fantastic looking case, and it is very protective...so long as your camera doesn't move much. I wouldn't trust it with the wrist strap around your wrist however because the magnets aren't strong enough and the back of the case opens very easily. The case might have been better if they move the magnets closer to the edge of the case or made them bigger so they have more surface area to make the latch, but as it is right now they're just flimsy and only catch if you close it just right (read very tightly).

I like this product for the purpose of protecting my camera. The white color choice makes it attractive. The closing of the case is done by magnetic clips. So it is not highly secured and easily will open. I travel a lot and shoot a lot of pictures. So I have a shoulder strap type of bag that this fits into. But for purposes of travel, putting it in a bag or carryon, this case is an excellent protective item. Protects the camera and makes it easy to take the camera out for use.

The magnet on the back of the case is not the strongest magnet, and needs to be pushed down to make sure it closes. Overall, it's a nice case and I feel like my camera is protected inside of it.

Buy Black Rapid FastenR-3

I've been using my Black Rapid straps for a couple months now with the included FastenR-2's. I actually liked the design and didn't have any problems with it, at least not with the appearance.

There is, however, a problem with the construction it's multiple pieces thrown together, and thats not something you want when dealing with holding thousands of dollars of gear. While it didn't happen to me, I've seen the flaws of the FastenR-2 design in that the "hook" piece that you connect the R-Strap to, can come off!

That's all it took for me to consider upgrading to the FastenR-3.

Right off the bat, I love that it's a single piece of metal (from the screw to the top that you connect to). There is still a rubber insert to provide a tighter lock, but it's now about 1/2 the size of the FastenR-2's (it also has grooves on it I think this is to give it a tigher "lock", but I could be wrong).

The design is OK. Nothing incredible, pretty basic. I like the looks of the FastenR-2 more (I don't care for the odd color of the FastenR-3 it changes colors from silver to black to green, depending on the light you look at it in, but thats not a big deal).

My big concern was using the FastenR-3 with a DSLR and a battery grip (shooting vertical). The F-2 had a swinging hook, so it would hide itself and not bother your hand when using it in vertical-mode. I was worried the F-3's solid hook would dig into your hand when using it vertical fortunately it doesn't!

One problem with it is that the hook part now has a big "bump" (the part with the "R" logo on the picture). This makes it odd to sit the camera down on a flat surface (the F-2 had a flat surface and the hook swung out of the way).

The only reason I see it worth upgrading is for the security/peace of mind the solid-piece connector brings. I definitely prefer the look of the F-2, but apparently it's flawed -I just didn't want to take the chance.

As a bonus, buying the FR-3 allows you to use your existing FR-2s for other objects (like a flash most of which now have an adapter with tripod threading that will work great! or a point & shoot)

One note about this after using it for a week getting the ConnectR (carabiner) into and out of the FastenR-3 is more difficult than the FastenR-2 I think this is actually a good thing as it practically eliminates the possibility of it falling off the carabiner if it were to open (with the screw-in lock it shouldn't, but if you forgot to screw it in, for example) the fastenR-2 is much easier to connect/disconnect. Depending how often you do this, it could be a good thing (more secure) or a bad thing (harder to attach/detach).

As title, this is well made little thing that give you the confidence to hang your expensive equipments on the single tripod screw. However, it is so over priced due to a lake of competition. Since they're the only one avaliable here, I just pay for this little screw for my single sling solution to be complete.

FYI: For the strap, I went to the tactial sling section. The pricing is way more reasonable and the one I got (A Tac(tm) Single Point Tactical Sling) is well built with quality materials.

Summary:

I was a Black Rapid Straps RS4 owner once. I found a cheaper alternative to that with this device added to the RainbowImaging Innovative Neck Strap. Those two combined is 25 dollar less then the similar RS4.

Saving money is a good thing in this economy. I think the quality is very good, but could have been a little cheaper.

I have one of these fastened to my Manfrotto RC4 platewhen i need to mount the camera to my tripod, i have to unscrew this studwhen i did recently, i realized that it had started unscrewing itself over time was a mere millimeters (in my case, it was about within 30 minutes more for me) from completely unscrewingwhich would have caused my Canon 5D 3 and 24-70 L lens to drop onto solid cement. Black Rapid acknowledged their fastener stud will come loose and said i "needed to check to make sure it's fastened tightly every time i use the camera"... a poor excuse.

If you do buy this, make sure you purchase the Op/Tech Connector Uniloop for 7 bucks, which fastens to your BlackRapid strap and loops around the little silver camera strap pin that is on the bottom of your camerathis will provide a secondary fail-safe.... if the fastener ever comes loose and separates from the camera, the Connector strap will catch the camera and save your gear. I ordered this "replacement foam set" thinking it would be an actual replacement foam set. Silly me.

It is generic foam that does not fit the case. It requires cutting and trimming. Not that I am too much of a Primadonna to cut it and make it fit, but that is not what I wanted. SO... I paid a premium for the replacement foam, thinking it would actually replace the original foam! ???? It does not.

Go to HD and buy some generic foam, save $$ and use the savings to buy a nice pair of scissors
