Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a very well-made portable digital camera case (or, as others have mentioned, can be used for GPS units as well), and I was impressed with the OUTER sturdiness of it. Where it was lacking, in my opinion, is the lack of padding (equating to protection), on the INSIDE. While there is an elastic belt that holds the camera in place, I thought there could have been a LOT more inside padding to protect the camera in case of a fall without sacrificing interior space. There's virtually NO padding on the inside wall that the body of the camera rests against when it is strapped in, or on the opposite wall, for that matter.

I'm not sure if a strapped-in camera would be safe from shock/breakage or dents even with the sturdy outside design in a lengthy fall. I'm sure it would be fine if the case/camera fell from arm's length to the ground, but not so sure in the outdoors, and wonder why they simply didn't add more padding on both inside walls to protect the camera.

Other than that, it's a matter of personal preference whether you like a thin or thicker neck strap (I prefer a thinner but stronger one), and all-in-all, this no-frills camera case IS well made, with a convenient belt-loop, compartment to hold a few memory cards, and as previously mentioned, very sturdy outside shell. Before use, for extra protection and peace of mind, using double-sided tape, I would place a small, cut-to-fit piece of bubble wrap on the inside wall that the camera is strapped up against, going up the divider (which is padded, but not sufficiently in my opinion), especially if an expensive portable digital camera is what's inside.

I got this for a Canon G11, which is a large point and shoot camera. It's a snug fit when you try to cram in a neck strap along with the camera. No room for anything else. But a large P&S was my choice, so no criticism as to size. If you have a small camera or device, size shouldn't be a problem.

But:

(1) The earlier reviewer is right: No padding whatsoever on the inside. I would not want to drop it more than 6 inches to a hard surface with a camera inside.

(2) It is not a hard-sided case as advertised. The material is stiff, but flexible. Your camera is in jeopardy if someone sits or steps on it.

(3) The zipper closure is a scratch risk. Unless I'm very slow and careful, pulling the camera out inevitably drags the camera body across the zipper.

I won't be using this for my G11 or any camera. I'd give it two stars on its merits, but the price is attractive, so three.

Stash your point-and-shoot digital camera (or, as others have mentioned, a compact GPS) into this case. Then either hang it around your neck OR loop it through your belt (or other strap of your choice); you'll have only yourself to blame when you lose or damage your gear by some other means.

This is sturdy, clamshell-style case with very rigid corners. It's softer towards its center, and while it probably wouldn't stand up to be running over by a car, it will certainly take the strain of being tucked inside a bag, jostled around the inside of a vehicle, or bouncing through ups and downs of a day trip. Lowepro shows the same level of quality in an under-$20 product as it does in its more expensive items.

The zipper enclosure operates smoothly. An interior pocket provides extra snugness for smaller cameras, and an elastic strap can retain a miscellaneous item or two. This case easily held an Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 camera, an iPod nano, Sony earbuds and a USB cable (see the user images). It also held the same camera and an AC charging adapter, but the arrangement for this was awkward due to the bulk of the adapter.

Obviously not as compact as soft cases, when you choose this model you are making a conscious decision of choosing added protection over portability, since this won't fit in any standard size shirt or pants pocket.

I purchased this bag due to it's low profile and tie points for a monopod on the side. I'll be shooting at a crowded convention and I don't need a monopod whacking someone in the hall or elevator. I think it will be OK for this, but I can't really rave about it.

The Kata GearPack DL-100 is finally a camera bag that thinks like I do.

This is an incredibly lightweight camera bag / backpack. Compared to other camera bags I've used, this is a featherweight. As with other Kata bags, protection and padding isn't sacrificed for lightweight. They have managed to put padding exactly where it is needed.

I've struggled for a long time with my camera equipment. I have a Canon 7D, the big heavy 70-200mm f2.8 IS II lens, a fat, short and heavy 24-70mm f2.8 lens, a small video camera (a Canon Vixia), shotgun microphone, and a few accessories. The challenge has always been lens hoods and packing that camera with the 70-200mm attached. And then finding a simple way to cleanly swap lenses. This backpack is nearly perfect. It lays flat on the ground and the top flap zips open to expose all the compartments. The sides are rigid enough that equipment won't roll out of the bag when open.

The Canon 7D with the 70-200mm attached and lens hood flipped around, fits perfectly down the center compartment (a 300mm f2.8 would just fit in this bag). I am able to put the 24-70mm lens hood at the top of the center compartment. The 24-70mm fits perfectly in a side compartment. And the video camera fits perfectly on the opposite side. And my Cinevate quick-change plate (the Simplus) fits in another compartment. There are still a few small compartments for accessories. The shotgun mic fits just fine on top of the center compartment. There is enough wiggle room to change lenses. I can pop the camera and lens in and out of the slot quickly and easily.

The main body has double zippers so it is really fast and easy to get that flap open to access my gear. The top flap is opened with a single zipper. The top area is for small things, memory cards, pen, paper, and a cloth. Hard gear is not a good idea in this area. I was able to toss in two 500mL bottles of water and a paperback book. An iPad fits perfectly, although it should probably be in a case, there isn't a lot of padding in that outer compartment. A 13-inch laptop would be the largest I would put in that area, a 15 won't fit or be very well protected.

The pack is beautifully made. The armbands are wide and well padded. The back is slightly curved so it rides just right on my lower back. The loop handle on top is super strong and makes for a great carrying handle. The fabric is a rugged woven vinyl material that looks like it will wear like iron. The interior of the main and top compartment is a bright yellow. I really like that a lot. The main compartment is soft velvet felt like material that feels good. It is a pleasure to feel this material as I remove my camera.

I've kicked this backpack around. The padding is just that good around all sides of my camera equipment.

What I really like about this bag, the dividers were all in exactly the spot I needed them. I hate bags that give me a big package of Velcro dividers and then expect me to customize the interior of my bag. I'm just not creative enough to figure out the best layout. I end up putting those dividers in one way and then fight with them. No the case with this Kata bag. The two main dividers are absolutely perfect for my camera and I would expect most DSLR's. I've only had to move around the simple square compartment dividers.

The difference between the GearPack-100, -80, and -60 is pretty much length. They are essentially the same bag, except for the internal lengths: -100 = 16 inches; -80 = 13 inches; and -60 = 10 inches. The product picture with this Amazon listing shows how easy it is to pack that 70-200mm f2.8 in the center, with some space at the end; two lenses side by side, and a flash. The smaller models simply give up a little extra space at the end of the lenses.

I stood and looked at the 80 and 100 for a long time. I finally decided on the 100, for a very little more money, I got a lot more space inside the bag. I would say that the 100 is the right bag for somebody with a big wide 70-200 or 300mm. The 80 will work just fine for the 70-200, but would probably be a bit tight for the 300mm. And the 60 is for the kit lens or shorter focal length lenses.

After using this bag, I'm convinced Kata is safe with their guarantee of this being the lightest weight bag you can find with excellent padding. This is not billed as a waterproof bag, there is no weather cover built in. Looking at the zippers and how they are constructed, I would guess this is a reasonably water resistant bag. The armbands cannot be detached or tucked inside the bag. That is one thing I don't like as much, the floppy straps.

I really like this bag a lot.

I picked up a Petrol PC300 when the strap on my Genus GL-GEN1000 Backpack began to fray and separate at the right shoulder seam. The Petrol offers instant advantages over the Genus, including being less than half the weight of the larger bag (5.6 pounds vs a back-breaking 11.8) and a form factor that was is more taped to the human wearing it. I shoot in Washington, D.C. and take my bags frequently onto public transportation, so this is a vast improvement. The Petrol is even small enough to fit in a plane's overheard compartment, which I feel a lot more comfortable about than handing my entire video rig over to the roulette wheel of baggage arrival.

And despite the reduced size, the inside of the Petrol is better laid out and more usable than the Genus. I find I can fit the same gear in more or less the same arrangement, though a tad more snug, but everything just seems laid out better. This is especially true with the compartment made to cradle your camera snugly in the center of the bag; a thick Velcro thick strap permanently attached across the middle of the chamber accomplishes this very well. And the smaller removable velcro walls are easy to shift around to customize the kit any way you require. Two thin pockets line the inside of the bag lip. The smaller top pocket is clear and the perfect size for an iPad (though it offers basic no protection). The second has a zipper and folded Velcro enclosure and might be able to hold a Macbook Air (again, with absolutely no protection). The Genus offered ample laptop security (enough to barely fit my 17" Macbook Pro from 2008) as well as a third smaller pocket. You only get the bare basics with the Petrol.

There are two deep side pockets (with very narrow, unyielding openings) and matching bungee cords to latch for tripods and other gear to the outside of the bag...and that's it. No outside small pockets for batteries or tapes, no business card pocket or keychain, not even a cell phone pouch (though I found I could swipe the one from my Genus and it fit around the straps of the Petrol just fine). There is a pen holder attached to one of the removable inner walls, but only on one of them, and I found it purely by accident.

The main straps and moulded back handle are quite sturdy, but the support straps across the chest and waist are cheap, light plastic and the shoulder straps a tendency to shift dramatically an inch or so when putting the bag on or off, but stay attached firmly once worn. Still, it's just enough to be slightly alarming when you have $5000 strapped to your back. When properly strapped on, the bag is very comfortable to wear. The 6lbs between the Petrol and the Genus is the largest difference, but the way the smaller bag curves more to fit the back and shoulders is also a huge plus. I never had a feeling for how much space it took up behind me, always underestimating it.

The sacrifices for size and weight begin at the bottom of the Petrol bag, which has no additional protection or stability, making it impossible to stand the bag upright. Worse is how the bag opens face-down so that the narrower, rounded front of the bag is in contact with the surface, making the kit less stable when open than the Janus. And while the nylon-ballistic pockets on the outside of the bag are strong they have no give, so they aren't even large enough to hold a bottle of water.

For me, the sacrifices are worth it. I need my bag to stay on my back almost all the time, as I frequently shoot in nightclubs and outside venues that may view a stray bag with alarm. But if you need to regularly carry anything more than a small kit and an iPad with you, I'd look at a different bag.

I actually bought this bag for a fairly large tripod that is easier to carry around with a bag than without it. I gather that what applies to the tripod applies to lightstands as well though.

Well made bag. A nice touch is the velcro divider in the side pouch the pouch is big enough to warrant it. The double zipper design that opens up on one end and goes almost to the other end provides easy access to your gear inside. Protection will be adequate; it's well padded for daily use. But I wouldn't use it to check my tripod for a flight the bag will not protect for abuse by baggage handlers.

A bit disappointing are the straps at the bottom of the bag. The idea is that you can use them to tie down your gear, but the use of camera strap style buckles (as opposed to backpack style quick-releases) baffles me. Every time you want to use the straps you have to weave the one end through the buckle. Was a snap-release that much more expensive for a bag at this price? For this reason I rate this bag with only 4 stars, not 5 because outside that this bag offers tremendous value for money.

For those who want a shorter case, Hakuba makes it, but this one does 2 2214 lightstands, SLIK pro 700 tripod with tall joystick head, plus although a tight fit, a couple of foldup softboxes and umbrellas and their brackets. Fortunately its tough zipper seems able to hold it all in. The shoulder strap is adequate, but not comfy enough to avoid the nice grips. A bit too much gear for one bag but since I need another traveling lightstand, another PSTC400 will even it out, It seems very well-made and -padded. It's only a little more money for this higher level of quality. While there is still an argument for studio strobes, the trend out of the studio, toward lightweight portability and shoe flashes is well-served by protective cases such as this. Recommended.

I purchased this bag to carry light stands AND a tripod and this bag does the job very well. The bag is padded and well constructed with heady duty materials. The zipper is heavy duty. Nothing is cheap about this bag.

It's just the right size and fits in my trunk (Maxima). I shoot weddings and take this bag filled with (2) 10' light stands, (1) Promaster Tripod, (2) 32" umbrellas, (1) light pole, (2) extension cords. There is also a side zippered pocket that holds hardware/brackets. This is a really nice bag for the price and would highly reccomend this one if you want/need to carry several stands/tripod. I could probably fit one more inside if I had to.

I am very pleased with this bag, fits in the car (side to side) and keeps my fluid heads protected. I got this case for my Canon PowerShot SX210IS. I picked it out using LowePro's interactive camera bag selector (see their website). When I first saw the case I didn't think the camera would fit, but it couldn't be more perfect. One thing I really like about this case is that there isn't a flap that folds over. I hate those because they seem to catch on everything. There is a velcro belt loop on the back of the case that folds over, but it lays very flat and I don't think it will catch on anything. There is room in the case for an extra battery and memory card, but nothing else. Another great feature is that there are two zippers, and the sides of the case are gusseted. You can move both zipper pulls to the top, and when you open one of them to get your camera out, the gussets will prevent the camera from falling out. A nice feature, since I just got my camera back from being repaired as a result of a drop. The strap is really narrow--maybe too narrow, but that's minor nitpick. The clasps that hook the strap onto the case don't seem quite as trustworthy as a I would like, but I might be paranoid because of the aforementioned drop. As a bonus, I got the pine green color, which beats having everything black all the time. Overall, I love it!

I like the color, though. Something more pleasing than black!

It does a moderately good job of protecting the camera in all but the most extreme drop it on the concrete for example cases. The padded neoprene sides also have one side that is silky smooth on the inside so as to protect your cameras delicate lens. I had used the thin cloth style camera cover that came with the camera inside of this Case Logic case and it fit without any problems. At some point I may just park the cover that came with the camera and let this case do its job alone.

The fattest camera I have is the Flip UltraHD which is twice the size in thickness of most small video cameras and that one even went in without any trouble, just like it was made for it. Because of the padded sides even the ultra slim Creative Vado fit in there nicely. They include a wrist strap so you can protect your camera against unexpected drops, but most cameras come with one built in as well. The only thing is that it is better to have one on the case so you are not leaving the case partly open to allow the cameras wrist strap to do the job.

Overall I think it is a smart looking case although it isn't what you would call your rugged he-man leather model. It has a soft neoprene outer shell that is a little puffy but not bad. For the money it is a great case, and a very good way to protect your camera.

I recently bought a Panasonic ZS15 (little brother of the ZS20, same size but slightly different specs) and really struggled to find a case which would fit it; the cases were either for smaller cameras or would be too bulky for this camera. I tried Case Logic's camera case finder and, to be honest, they weren't much help either; they suggested all the larger cases, and I didn't want that. Then I came across this case, and saw the reviews saying that it fits the Flip camcorder really well. I looked at the Flip dimensions and found that they're about the same as the ZS15 and ZS20, so I got this case.

It is perfect for this camera; the camera fits snuggly and yet easily. The 'hard' side of the case we tend to use for the lens side of the camera, having had previous experience of Panasonic lens covers messing up over time; but it can fit either way. It seems a solid, good case, and I'm happy with this purchase.

Bought this along with my digital camera and a SanDisk memory card. It fits my Panasonic Lumix ZS20 (with a bit of wiggle room to spare) and it has a nice feature where one side is solid/stiffer, so it can be used to better protect either the lens side (as normally used for most digital cameras), or you can opt to put the touch screen on this side to give it more protection. The only reason is not a 5 star is because I don't like the strap and the attachment point on this case ... they seem/feel a bit flimsy in my opinion, like they would break if I just hold the entire thing using the strap. So far I always hold the body of the case; never carrying it using the strap. Better safe than sorry :)

It provides no shock protection if it is dropped on a hard surface. This Case Logic case provides exceptional protection for the Flip camcorder, not just against scratching, but against shock damage. I like it also because it allows me to stuff the Flip camcorder in a crowded bag without fear that it will be damaged.

If you have a Flip video, you should get this. The beauty of this case is that it isn't much larger than the protective sleeve that comes with the Flip, but it provides vastly more protection. Getting this should be a no brainer.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I ordered this case for my FlipVideo UltraHD. The FlipVideo is the pinnacle of minimalism and does not come with a "real" case, only a thin soft cloth bag that is a little too tight to easily use (and that offers just minimal protection, mostly from scratches).

There is a sliding scale of convenience versus protection, and while I'm sure a big bulky hard-sided case would protect the FlipVideo better, CaseLogic seems to have really hit the bulls-eye here. The case itself is not much bigger than the FlipVideo device itself. The neoprene sides are thick enough to provide excellent impact protection while still being flexible. One side of the case is stiffened internally, presumably to better protect a screen put against it. This seems to be a good design idea for an iPod, but maybe less useful for a camera where both sides are fragile. That being said, I think the neoprene is thick enough on the soft side to provide adequate protection.

In terms of quality, I am quite impressed. This is not just 2 pieces of material sewn together as there is a 3rd panel providing thickness. Seams between all 3 panels are not just tightly sewn, but they are bonded with another thin strip of neoprene on the inside. I would be amazed if you could pop open one of these seams even if you tried. The zipper is high quality with a nice rubberized pull, and the case includes a quality lanyard as well.

For the price offered here, I would definitely recommend buying it for any pocket camera. Not much in the way of extra functionality (you cannot use it in the case for instance), but for what it is, I like it.
